THE education system here aims to equip every student with skills needed to make a good living, and the Institute of Technical Education (ITE) is a crucial part of this vision, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said on Monday.
To ensure that the ITE continues being a key pillar of the system, the Government will pump $2 billion into it in the next five years as an investment in vocational and technical education.
The Government invests heavily in ITE to develop top-notch infrastructure for it, and to staff it with capable, inspiring teachers who deliver an industry-relevant curriculum, he said.
The result is a system of technical and vocational training not found elsewhere in the world, said PM Lee.
It is through this system that the Government aims to equip every young Singaporean - even those less academically inclined - with skills he needs to hold his own, make a good living and be a part of this country's economic transformation.

When the student is at O or N levels, those who cannot make it go into ITE. What's their starting pay? I believe still a notch lower than poly. And whatever promotion opportunities will always be given to poly grads...before which comes the uni grads. It is likely to be this way their whole life especially in civil service. And a lot of those who go into ITE have a lot of financial and domestic issues. Yes of course there are those brilliant ones who go on to excel in life.
And look at the people running these schools, they are scholars and MBA holders ironically. All I can say is.....world class plans for not so world class students. There's bound to be a lot of friction in this sort of system.
From my point of view this is like one side clogged one side unclogged.
If you know what I mean.
Means?
Not to mention the principal or lecturer telling those companies that came to visit ITE that they " spoonfeed " their students . So far i have heard of 2 of my companies who hire ITE graduates telling us that and they insist that it is told to them by our head of dept or " someone from up there " . And naturally they really look down on the graduates . Save your money for increasing your own pay isn't it better ? Why waste money on us then backstabbing us ?
Very well done to our MOE for raising the student's morale then backstabbing them in the back by doing that . No wonder doublestandard practise at workplace has becoming the norm .
In short, sooner or later this ITE path is going to get clogged.
What I cannot understand is how come ITEs have foreign students.
$2 billions for ITE
and Zero for lower down the HDB?
