Hello all ! I am interested to take up Dragon Boating in Poly. I heard that it is tough but definitely memorable and fulfilling in life. I am fine with the tough training as i know i would gain from them. But I do have a concern ...
Since dragonboaters only paddle on one side, will their body become out of proportion ? Like left/right side bigger than the other. And will the body be in any harm, since they are leaning to their rowing side and exerting strength on just one side ?
Would like to learn more about this. Please advise. Thank you;) !
i guess this is how we all see dragon boat people as they walk around with their oars in everyone else's face...
DUH!!!
switch sides!!
I have 2 sisters who both joined DB, one in NYP and another in TP and both have graduated with no visible deformation or health deterioration except for being sunburned.

Hey toiletries, thanks for the reply !
I heard its damn busy, and must be very disciplined. How did they cope with their studies ?
they spend more time in the gym then on the boat.
Usually, we will switch sides after one season, so that we will balance the body.
Yes, we spend like 5 days in the gym, and only 2 days in the boat. So the left and right, dont have much imbalance.Anyway, every1 is born with a master side, so we are already imbalance at birth.
Give it try..

5 days in a gym and 2 days on boat...
tat's total of 7 days per week which I presume each session is 2 hours...
Tat's quite a huge part on commitment...

Individual interest. Some people play PSP all day w/o getting tired. Some people play basketball, soccer... Others study 24/7 everyday. LOL.

Wow Lokey, that's quite alot ! Are you still paddling for any club/organisation ? I thought we should have one day rest for muscle growth and recovery ?
Please advice. Thanks;)

nope. too busy, got to work.
There are 5 main body parts, back, shoulder, chest, arms, leg and the extra abs. So usually, weight training session only train on back, shoulder, arms and abs. Chest and legs, got to train on our own. 2 to 4 days of rowing only apply to race season. During exam season, OFF.
I forgot to say on top of that I do train running on my own.
And also use some common sense, you feel that you are overtrained, then rest. Tutorial cannot finish, then do tutorial first...Dont fail your diploma and regret for life. National dragon boater dont get pay in SG.
School team is bit siao on. You can try CSC club team instead.
BTW. Most dragonboaters do bodybuilding and dragon boating at the same time. Dragonboating itself does not really make the person really big size.
