Simply put... I think Parkour means running away.. haha! but with the kind
of styles that jackie chan gets away with in his movies..I suppose..
Btw, presume compliance that you are able to run away in any real street scenarios is very dangerous, alot of DT instructors always say that, but if the person is a faster runner than you, you're in trouble.
Self defense encompasses alot of different areas, such as emotions, physco-factors, verbal and non verbal. Biomechanics etc.

well.. you can try www.idact.sg, they hold self defense workshops and seminars..But they have regular classes every week too.My frens are taking lessons with them, heard the information and knowledge they get from there is really different from what they experience mostly. They have a division which does R&D into different areas of self defense too.
hmm, are they any good - like i mean, compared to traditional established martial arts schools, karate, taekwondo etc.
are they still effecient in passing down practical knowledge, or it's going to be a waste of time?

Afraid of faster runners? Then you have to fight and disable their running capability. However most self-defence courses never train a person how to escape from a professional killer or assasin.

Simply said, you being around is a simple waste of time. There is no ultimate fool-proof method to self-defence.

what i meant was, are they still at the stage where they are still intergrating and experimenting different skill sets, or have they already established what they want to teach.
since i noticed they even had an R&D division.
wasting time? like what your dad was doing which resulted in you being born? =)

More that I was an effort of my parents' hobbies, you bloody piece of exrement borned when a dog pissed on a heap of dung. I sincerely hope that you enjoy the exchange of vulgarities.
As I have stated before, there are so many known and unknown systems out there, how can it be possible to come up with a succesful set of skills that can deal with them all in normal human terms?

well, your parents' definitely ain't gonna tell you everything, would they? ;)
lol, don't worry about me, i'm not bored of it yet, getting there though.
there may not be a complete set of skills, but there's a difference if they've researched for 1 year, and researched for 10 years.
if this school is new, and they've only just started creating their own style of martial arts, then it means it's rather untested.
savvy, faggy?

Let me tell you a secret: I have been fucking your mother with a 10 metre dong for the last decade and she's loving it. Faham, you faggot son of bitch dick-sucker of your infernal god?
What are the known skill sets is the school capable of defending against? How many years does a normal human need to master the defending techniques, tactics and philosophy?
Technically, there is a need for testing like in the oldern times where 1 school of martial arts will pit against another. No testing means the new school is still not ready for teaching student actual street self-defence techniques where they may be facing multiple masters of different multiple schools of martial arts.

Stick to the topic guys! Discuss about MARTIAL ARTS and SELF-DEFENSE! Anyway, my cousin said that I should learn Muay Thai, but I think that it is more about competing in the ring than about self-defense. What do you guys think?

There is an older form of Muay Thai going by another name that was created for use on the battlefield if I remember correctly. The techniques include something similar to diem mak or dian xue. Multiple requirements to undergo the training which includes that you be Thai, having Buddhism as a religion as the technique is meant to kill and don't know what else. Present day Muay Thai is meant as a sport, not as a self-defence technique
I really don't understand about self-defence is to defend oneself against what? Amateur close combat fighters or professional killers? Multiple cross discipline training? If I remember correctly some Fijian wrestling techniques includes firearms wrestling training. Does self-defence training include counter-firearms techniques.
dumbdumb! requests that I should insult him with vulgarities in any thread he inputs as a form of greeting.
Offense is the best defense.

Well weighing most pros and cons... I would say the top choice for the very few who knew about it is.... Krav Maga. Real time - Real Life arts.

well, thy have been doing research into such areas for a couple of years, and the chief coach has had 17 years of martial arts experience? Heard that he has quite a number of street fights encounters too.. not to say that he goes around looking for fights of course.. haha!
hm... they do have specific sets of knowledges, from awareness, prevention, to defuse and the final defending yourself. heard from my friends that they have a couple of specific set of core training models in how they teach. They teach the most often neglected emotional and physcological factors by most instructors too..
hm.. i might be joining them for classes, after my exams though.. hee... aiya, no harm going to take a look too, they let you in on a trial lesson first and if you're ok, then join in, if not, just leave lo.. My friends after they joined the trial, they requested for another few more, and they agreed! And the 1st trial lessons they went to, they were already teaching my friends with nothing to hide.
aiyo.. you guys are always quarreling around, how to have a good perception of things lehz..anyway, the chief coach has started a new FAQ through his personal mail, [email protected], direct any enquiries or questions you guys might have to him ba..
Krav maga is not to be taken lightly. Very lethal and can kill a full grown man if the technics are done properly. Saw some videos and those Krav maga artiste can take on up to 30 man in a street fight cause they only take less then 2 seconds to bring on down and almost... *epps* instants kill them. Krav Maga is not only the art of self defence, its the art of counter defence killing. Defend, counter, kill. Scary no wonder the isrealites use it. Very very effective.

Because the definition of self-defence is not well-known. As I said before, it's up to who you are defending against, not the methodology is the difference.

Krav maga is a physical contact technique, if the blow is blocked, the killing strike is rended ineffective. Ki techniques like 隔山打牛 or Gyudoryu karate joint-locking punch are created to deal with people who like to block the killing blows. So technically speaking, krav maga is great for dealing for dealing with huge groups of amateur fighters, against masters of ki discipline, it might get into trouble.

Dear Herzog_Zwei =)
Its true that every technics have their pros and cons. I practice Krav Maga when i was overseas went on a little course. I believe TS wanted to seek a martial art that he/she could find it of use with instant effect on defending one self in the streets. True that once a Krav Maga Killing technic is block its rendered much useless but Krav Maga does not land just one killing strike. A simple technic would be something like this.
Kick/Knee to Groin > Sledge fist to temple > Eye strike > Throat strike > Right elbow slice> Left elbow slice > Coup de grace > Rear naked choke > Weaken the enemy and end it with a Neck twist which ends in an almost instand death.
All these movements are executed within seconds which involves a simple three step killing technic inside. Throat strike, Coup de grace and Rear naked choke. To do a neck twist a rear naked choke must be dealt properly.
Ki techniques take years to master and maintain so i believe that for one that has a faster option within a span of a year to be able to defend oneself at a certain degree would be Krav Maga.
So no offense to it ya? Im just giving TS a lethal martial art that could help him in normal day circumstances and that could be learnt within a shorter period but as usual all martial arts that years to master just that some are easier to execute at the moment of adrenaline.

You learned how to kill people?
wow seem like a lot of debate on martial art here. Well for any martial art u do, Passion is the thing that will last. Once u choose it, maintain it and tried to explore it. Any senior / aka black belt to any martial is the beginning journey of learning. There is no fool proof to any martial art, it the person using it that see the different. For wat i think stamina is the more of impt thing as in sparring, if stamina run out, u couldnt even stand up properly.
