Ohhhh. That sounds logical.
i picked it up when i was in sji but i wouldnt say it is a brilliant method of self-defense
judo would work best only if you can get a good, tight hold of your opponent and if the opponent is armed, you'll have to figure a way to remove it asap if not judo is useless
Ip-man .
Wing Chun

erm i agree some sort. karate utilises hands and legs pretty equally
add on.. karate n aikido quite graceful oso
There's no such thing as which martial arts is the best for self defence. All are. Depends which platform is the most suitable for you & how fast you pick up.
Usually those practical techniques found in military unarmed combat are derived from Karate & Brazillian Jujitsu. Especially the arm lock techniques & knife defense techniques. There is a Isralite art named "Krav Maga", invented by Israelite Commandos which is based on real life scenerios, where the dirtiest techniques are involved. That is what I call Self Defence. No matter how good you are, at last the mission is to hit & run.
Wing Chun
U can defeat 10 black belts with it..

depends on the student. i've seen black belts in karate and judo unable to defend themselves properly.

for me i will recommend krav maga.. or TKD.
Judo emphasizes on throws, so if u are smaller in build u are disadvantaged.
The best way is to run for it.. use martial arts unless u reallly have no choice
i recommend karate
the katas are all veri graceful
upper body and lower body all utilise
aikido oso gd
turn the opponent energy into urs
n learn the atemis to immobilise him

judo is good, i think they don't depend on your own strength or size.
and it was selected to be taught to the japanese police.
and grappling arts is more useful than striking art, i think, depending on ur situation.
1 v 1, grappling i think better
3 v 1, striking i think better
20 v 1, running i think better.
i personally want to take wing chun. the hype of it =P
a chopper would be useful...

learning judo in the dojo is very different from a real situation outside
in the dojo, judokas r taught to grapp the gi which is specially made for the purpose of practising grappling
in real scenario hardly anyone wears a gi on the street
