I dunno anything abou their competuition, but I attended a few lessons in my Uni JJJ class. Then I left, primarily because I did not agree with the way training is held.
Basically you start with practising ukemi, then lesson starts proper. The instructor demonstrates a move, then you pair off and try it. All kosher so far. The problem however, is that we almost always practise on a compliant partner.
There are also many questionable techniques - eg Partner punches you slip the punch, grab his wrist and end with a standing elbow lock. We know how that would work in real life...
It is partly because of this that Kano started Kodokan Judo - so that people can practise techniques at full speed against a resisting opponent.
