The most popular one that the media say is best streetwise is brazilian jiujitsu. But most conservatives still say taekwondo. TKD is still taught in the police academy =pOriginally posted by Hidden^OnE:Streetwise? Anything that is fast and lethal. No ground works.
Brazilian jujitsu is mostly groundwork. The aim is to force the attacker into submission. But due to the natural of the style, it would be less effective on the 1 vs. a few situation. If you get one guy on the ground(you will be on the ground too), the others may just take the chance to kick you.Originally posted by pandemonium:The most popular one that the media say is best streetwise is brazilian jiujitsu. One thing, never grab the neck like what muay thai does. There's a way to escape and leaves a lot of space for attack.Originally posted by stellazio:if really need to fight, muay thai might be a good one..actually any strong roundhouse or cross to the fella face should buy u enough time to make ur escape..
While you are right, soft martial arts like Taiji, Xingyi and Bagua aims are the same as Muay Thai. Not just aim target, but aim to prevent you from fighting back as well. Those who are well versed in Xingyi will know that Xingyi attacks in a straight line, going straight through and attack. They can make the attacker off-balance of their direct style.Originally posted by Advante_101:Muaythai is the best..There is alot of dirty tricks & deadly moves & tactics in Muaythai its just tat not much pple know about it... What u see in the ring are the "clean version" of muaythai nia......Faced a muaythai fighter outside the street..u will definately end up in ICU depending on how far he wanted to smash u nia...If he realli no liang xing type..well gd luck to ur bones & joints..
A simple direct powerful Muaythai roundhouse kick can couquer almost all kinds of styles..wheater it is kungfu..boxing..taichi or TKD or watever...In TKD u concentrate on just hitting ur target..In Muaythai u concentrate on kicking cut thru ur target!!!! Cant be bother to add on more...i dun get anything..Jus to say MT is the best but it takes time motivation & hardcore training to reach the top
Im glad tat SAF & Singapore police etc still stuck to basic TKD for their CCT training...If not singapore will be a realli dangerous society... Full of ah bengs trying to hit each other with 'Hanuman single elbow strike' Die lo......
Last sat went to Club momo got this big indian guy used tis move on a smaller guy manz...scary
i understand where you're coming from, but what i meant was not to go underground and look for fights etc, but more of like in a situation, for example, you see someone getting robbed and threatened, instead of just only calling the police, you can make an effort to try and disarm the person. this might save a person's life which might have been impossible to do if no one versed in unarmed combat is in the vicinity.Originally posted by CenturionMBT:street wise means avoiding a fight before it even starts.
Dun go running around looking for fights just because you know martial arts. That is not street wise.
Situation awarness is important. Learn to see people's body language.
Don't distract yourself with loud music or a handphone. That is a recipe for a robbery/attack. In other words, be on your guard.
Run if you can, buy time if you can. Get help or run into a big crowd. That is being streetwise.
Remember, a martial art, is not exactly a 100% fool proof weapon. It is just to give a you little bit of advantage over your opponent to create an opening for yourself.
