So far, this is the theory I learnt from this art. Application is hard, because everybody's thinking is different and they will attack differently. So, the best way is to practise regularly, know your moves, so when someone attacks you, it will be your natural instincts to use that particular move to counter-attack.Originally posted by Shigemichi Take:Well done! By the way, we follow closely with the creation-destruction cycle (meaning metal, wood, water, earth and fire). The understanding of this cycle helps you a lot in why we use this a particular method to defend against our opponents.
Haha, dragon is one of the 12 animals that we are going to learn, and one of the hardest because of its weird stance. But it is very effective against most opponents because most punches are straight.Originally posted by adelinechen:Interesting...didnt know that u have creation-destruction cycle i only know u have dragon style and etc
That depends on the qigong in question...Basic zhan zhuang and some others are fine for people to do alone and will not cause any harm whatsoever.Originally posted by ndmmxiaomayi:Do not train qigong without any masters teaching you. Qigong although is good for health, without experts teaching you, you will harm yourself only.
Zhan Zhuang soould be ok, but I am not sure about the qigong.Originally posted by Northwind:That depends on the qigong in question...Basic zhan zhuang and some others are fine for people to do alone and will not cause any harm whatsoever.
Agree.Originally posted by Northwind:Zhan Zhuang is a type of qigong, in that it works n builds the qi. Also good for posture, root n focus.
Specific qigongs through lineage (here ex: xingyi) are definitely teacher-required though for sure
Everything like what my teacher says.Originally posted by chakra:The power from Xingyi techniques comes from the whole structure of the human body in coordination. For example, the 'Beng' or 'Crushing Fist', comes from the forward movement of the whole body, initiated by the stepping in of the front feet, which is followed up by the stepping in of the rear feet almost simultaneously.
Both the foward momentum of the body, sinking of the center of gravity, and the stepping in of the rear foot, are the sources of the power, which is then transmitted by the turning of the waist and the torsor.
The shoulders and arms then transmit the power of the punch.
The forward hand will pull-back and the punching hand (the rear hand) will punch forward at solar plexus level, simultaneously. Both arms keep close to the body.
In other words, power actually comes from the feet first. That's is why, mastering and standing in the 'SanTi' Posture exercise is very important. It trains you in the correct posture and strengthen your legs.
Relaxing of muscles and body parts before a strike, only facilitates the transmission of power, by allowing the body move in coordination and providing a smooth path for power transmission.
Therefor, relaxing muscles or body before strike cannot increase your striking power if the above factors are not present (body coordination and 'Santi' posture)
It is hard to explain the mechanics of a technique in words, I have try my best in the above explanation, eventually, it is up to the individual to practise to fully understand and master the technique.
