true.. but me not going china,hk, macau area leh.. so not that kind of megashots..
u need to choose the colour and pattern of material for business suit and your position in the company
would prefer dark blue with pin strips

CYC stands for?
City Plaza where huh?
Thailand out of the question lor.. in any case.. i manage to get "student prices" quotations from tailors at Far East. Anywhere from $150-250 for Polyester and $200-350 for Wool blends. Inclusive of full satin linings and other frills such as customized names on the blazers.
I know the prices are already very VERY competitive as compared to ready-made. But I thinking of getting quotes and info from other places just to compare.
CYC is a shanghai tailor shop located at Raffles Hotel. One shirt will set you back at least S$125/- Shanghai tailor means that one shirt, they only use one thread that goes throughout the shirt. Thats skill lah.
My dear, your student price also not cheap leh. What does it include? Only jacket then its too expensive liao.
My ex-hub did one jacket & two pants for less then $150 at City Plaza leh. I dont remember the name liao since I no longer with my ex or need to accompany him for such tailoring events. I only know that the old man still has that shop there.
You should also check out your neighbourhood central where those ah peks has those pushcart stores that does pants and shirts. Check with them to at do a jacket.
Plain blacks or stripes one you can easily find at Robinsons, so you might as well look to tailor black but with interesting textures. That includes some polyester mix.
wah.. serious wor... city plaza.. hmm.. out of the way.. but i see i can make a trip there to scout..
i would suggest peninsula plaza
its like sim lim of tailors, esp if u dont want to spend so much on suit
gack, if city plaza is out of the way, then go to the neighbourhood centrals ah peks lah.
Who knows, if there is enough of you needing the jackets, can get the ah pek to visit your home or school to do the measurements? They dont all do the sewing, sometimes they contract out to other ah peks to do it.
If penisular nearer your place, and you can try to get mass discount.
Maybe a jacket and a pants and a shirt for S$200?
Not forgetting, ties, cuff links, belt and nice polished shoes with dark socks. Its a lot of accessories.
Cuff links are optional if your tailor just sew in buttons. And make sure he sew in a inner pocket inside your jacket so you can keep your passport and air ticks there.
Bring along a checked stiff collar shirt & plenty of Polo Shirts, for wearing under the jacket for semi formal events.
Wah.. thx vk for all tt useful info and tips..
And to laurie too.. feels weird being civl with u.. ahahaha..
auntie here used to co-ordinate female and male pageants, and had a ex hub with a really good height and body to wear good stuffs.
Plus old enough and enjoyed the rich or poor life enough, so have some experience lah.
You young men are easiest to outfit; females need to go thru so much trouble!
And me with short legs, short arms, small hands, small feet & big head. Really strange bodyshape so cannot use buy lots of clothes off the racks.
Plus I am a cheapskate, will go for cheaper tailoring then buying expensive stuffs off the rack.
So can say a bit experienced lah.
btw, I just added on a bikes forum where someone was asking for shirt tailoring.
someone asked whether tailors can sewn on the initials on the cuffs.
So far I know, only CYC embroider on the initials of the wearer on the cuffs for free.
But if you want, can always take your shirt to the embriodery shops located at the beach road army markets and have them embroider on your initials to make your shirt, jacket/blazer looks more personalised or expensive.
(Unless your seams are that obvious ugly, or else sure can make people who think they can recognise quality to think your cheapo stuffs to be tailored at expensive places.)

Anyway, i know that for jackets, it is best to have lining on the interior of the jacket. Satin lining.
What abt pants? Should have lining? If should have lining, should go for half lining or full lining?
Lining is for comfort sake (coz the contact of wool on the skin not as shiok as say satin) but the drawback is that it might retain heat.

Went Peninsula Plaza.. no tailor leh.. the 2 indicated on the lobby directory all no longer there.. there like Burmese version of Golden Mile liao..
City Plaza.. the uncles there also no give face.. still quote mroe than at Far East.. cheapes also $280 onwards.
I had mine at Emerald Point or something like that..the building beside Le Meridien.. It's a shop by Max Mohan's son..Cashmere-Silk also have... I had 2 pants,1 vest, 1 blazer and 2 shirts..around 1.4k...quite cheap considering the materials..the duration it takes..the service...it delivers to u too...professional alteration for free for 15 days..which means if a stitch is broken or busted a seam..u call them and they will come to u and fix it on the spot..very professional..im thinking of making another suit in June..or u can go to Suntec..there's a good tailor there too..

Master.. great recommendation but I guess it is more suited for working adults/business people.
Not so much for students who are more price conscious rather than convenience-and-service-oriented.
But sounds impressive..
