I will be doing so on Friday...because my boss will be out for one week on the 26th onwards for meeting...and if she comes back and the first thing i do is throw the letter i think she will go crazy...so i was thinking of tendering on the 23rd...
My mentor has confirmed that he is leaving...my boss had spoken to me earlier hoping that i will be able to learn everything i need before he leaves...she hasn't got a clue i'm planning to tender...
I can't say much in this case...i have to leave for my studies...its not that i don't like the job...so...i hope that she will "let me go"...because at the way things are looking...she may force me to stay...
Praying that all will be well...
bring your boss out to lunch ...
since it's not an acrimonious parting, and it'll be a good entry in your resume ....
Hmmm...i don't know if i should...because she usually goes out to lunch with her friend at work...and i usually eat in...so =/...
I don't know how to tell her...i mean i have been looking forward to this day...but yet...i still feel a little bad on my part...i mean i know i have to say it...but i dunno how...not when the boss treats you very well...and tries her best to fight for you...
don't worry....
loyalty counts nothing these days....

well ... it's something you have to do .... how about dinner then ? ...
and write her a nice length email, better yet, type something up and send it to her afterward .....
I think you should give her more advance notice also ... she may want the time to look for a replacement and maybe have you train the noob too .... by cutting it so close, you're screwing her up too isn't it? ...
just tell her as a matter of factly. this is part and parcel of working life. no one is indispensable. both of you will move on.
just don't burn bridges.
for as long as you are sticking to your notice period, 1 week or 1 month, you are ok. i will cut the crap of lunch/dinner thingy. alwaysdisturbed is right, loyalty is over-rated today in the working world. you should just do this without too much emotion. this will be best for everyone.
once you emo, you may get punch by the `rockers' in her.
Hmmm...i will tell her personally of course...i won't email or what...i will have a good chat with her...

Yeah giving 1 month notice
oh man.. that is worst case scenario for management. lol! hell.. its worst case scenario with any situation being in charge of the 2 persons gonna leave immediately right after the other. lol...
I could not sleep for days trying to find other solutions. imagine having to retrain a newbie... damn..

Hahaha...because i was playing the 3rd case in Trials and Tribulations...
Employment is a fair thing, you don't have to feel bad.
Personally, I think you should keep everything professional and short. I had once read that a tender letter should not include too much details such as your future intentions.
Just keep the letter simple and to the point, sentence such as "I would like to tender my resignation with effect from date __/__/__. Thank you for the opportunities you have provided me during my time with the company."
If she asked for a 1 on 1 chat, you don't have to reveal full details either. Just make it plain simple that you are leaving on goodwill. Making stories, real or fake will lead to complications. Not advisable.
Good Luck.

I don think your boss will be able to force you to stay of you do not want to. she can threaten, coax, bribe or sweet talk. but if u do not have the heart to stay none of those can make u.

there is no such thing as forcing U to stay....if U want to stay U will stay....if U want to go...there is nothing anyone can do except urself.
Wah!! Nu-er's resignation is front page news in SGFTimes.
Let your boss know and whatever she said, make it a point that you will leave no matter what.
Girl... why you feels bad? people always look future ahead. You are giving yourself an opportunity to see what others can offer you. No matter is studies or other work... you must know you are doing for yourself...
your boss thought that you can take over your mentor's work, now that you are leaving, it will put her in a very tight spot.
but i guess the business will still have to continue with or without your mentor and you. don't worry the business will adapt.

Looks like your boss is gonna have quite a little headache.
Have you discussed about your studies with your boss before? If its something that is "out of the blue" to her, it might really cause her to freak out.
I'd reccommend informally informing your boss first. At least she can immediately start the human resource process.
Well, i had mentioned to her before during the interview. But i think she would not expect it so soon. Either way, my mum adviced me to tender on Tues instead so that she can arrange with HR, before she leaves.
I'm giving her 1 mth and 2 weeks notice...but my resignation letter will start on 1st June...
Just do it. Have to go then have to go. Do it before your bosses trip. Giving her 1 month notice is very considerate and generous liao.
Yeah...i know...i have to say...actually recently i don't have mood to do things at work...maybe because of the fact that the date of leaving is so soo near
