Last night, I'd prepared a box lined with cloth and wanted to shift the dying kitten there. I tried to pick it up with a piece of cloth, but after a few clumsy attempts, the mother came and bit it with its mouth, carrying it into the box where I couldn't reach it.
This morning when I woke up, the kitten was gone!
Do mother cats really eat their kittens?
Oh.Originally posted by the Bear:no.. the kitten probably died and the mother cat moved it away from the rest of the brood...
can't have it decomposing and maybe causing infection to the other kittens or having other critters which eat carrion may come and harm the rest of the kittens..
don't be sad.. there will be some which do not make it.. poor thing will probably suffer if it survived
The mother cat has been missing in action since Tuesday! A walk around the neighborhood three times has turned up nothing...
The kittens are growing bigger fast... and they're ruining all my clothes by clawing at them everytime I sit down to play with them.
And the kibbles are being gobbled up faster... and faster...

Before clicking on this thread I figured your pet must've given birth.
Congratulations! What are you going to call the litter?
Religion?
Gender?

eeeeh!
ermmmm.
no names.
we're freethinkers!
gender can't remember.
get ur dog to guard the cat
actually now that they've stopped depending on their mother's milk, i'm thinking whether i should put them up for adoption
i don't foresee them living in my backyard permanently because there's a dog in the house who likes to pretend she's a ferocious hound whenever she sees cats.

I bet you can't distinguish one from the other (yet).
Go take some pictures of the kittens and share with us?

the cats are afraid of the dog...
my dog always wants to see them and sits by the door with her nose directly at the bottom of the door so she can smell them, but when i open the door, she starts to bark and growl and then the kittens will either scramble to hide or stand there stiffly with their fur all sticking up.
