I've been to all sorts of mosques around Singapore... not all of them have domes. The Kampung Siglap Mosque along Marine Parade Road, for instance, is shaped like a large kampung house and has no dome.
When I was in Beijing a few years ago I visited a mosque there which had the architecture of a temple. The only difference was that there are no figures of deities or burning joss-sticks around... instead, verses from the Quran were prominently displayed on the walls.
I still have the pics I took of that mosque in my archives... I'll post them up if and when I have the time to do so.

Here in NUS there are plenty of such prayer areas in the various faculties. They're usually at staircase landings with very little human traffic.
