opp my sch there is this dome.. i pointed to my malay friend and asked is it a mosque.. he say no.. den we look at the entrance it says mosque..
Blended pretty well with the surroundings..

But I do know that there's a hotel opposite Far East Plaza which does have a prayer room inside.
And no, a mosque doesn't have to have a dome... the architecture of a mosque doesn't make it a mosque. -

When I was in Beijing a few years ago I visited a mosque there which had the architecture of a temple. The only difference was that there are no figures of deities or burning joss-sticks around... instead, verses from the Quran were prominently displayed on the walls.
I still have the pics I took of that mosque in my archives... I'll post them up if and when I have the time to do so.

But suffice to say that if it is used for all the normal activities that a mosque does (regular mass prayer sessions, sermons, etc), and it is generally recognised by the community that it is a mosque, then it is a mosque. There is no prescribed architecture that a mosque must have.
It just so happens that most of the mosques that you see with domes and minarets follow architecture common in the Middle East. Otherwise, anything goes... like the Hajjah Fatimah Mosque along Beach Road, which has French and Moorish influences in its architecture.
Likewise, it just so happens that mosques would usually have verses of the Quran displayed on the walls. While my home does have verses of the Quran on the walls, I don't consider as a mosque since my home doesn't function as one.
