YOU can't eat off the floor, but Yuhua Village Market and Food Centre has the cleanest hawker centre toilets in the entire South-West district.
The reigning champion for the past three years emerged tops again this year in the South-West Community Development Council's sixth annual Clean, Dry & Sparkling Public Toilet award on Tuesday.
It defeated seven other nominees in estates such as Bukit Batok, Boon Lay and Jurong, partly thanks to lots of elbow grease from toilet cleaner Mr Ong Tye Siew.
The 67-year-old, who has been cleaning the washrooms in Yuhua Village for three years, said he checks and cleans the stalls every hour.
'It was difficult to get people to cooperate and not mess the place up at first. I learned to speak nicely to the customers and to the stall owners to make them understand the importance of keeping the toilets clean,' he said.
Judges from the CDC, National Environment Agency, town councils, Restroom Association of Singapore (RAS) and grassroots organisations studied, probed and flushed 22 washrooms on Monday and Tuesday for the award.

Anybody been there?
I wonder how clean it is.
In my opinion, the cleanest toilet should be the one at Ang Mo Kio Bus Interchange. They close the toilet almost every hour. Dun let you use, how not to be clean?
