but I'll try to help.
When you say because of pin placement, I'm guessing it's relatively far from the CG? The most straight-forward way would be to place the pin offset to the sides of the finger inserts, above the CG line.
(This sounds really sketchy, I know. But I can't remember what this position is known as. Like I said - I've been gone a looooong time)

I'm trying to draw a "diagram". The "X" is where the pin can be placed. This is a right-handed diagram. Lefties, please invert. Of course, all this is assuming that your side weight can be balanced with or without a balance hole.
If this doesn't work, your idea of a roughly sanded cover could work, but only if it's drilled to accomodate the high-friction surface an 800-grit sand would give. Otherwise, you'll get the ball to bite early only to suffer roll-out. I'm using average ballspeed and average technique to make educated guesses here, so it may not be the most accurate.
Anyone correct me, perhaps?

Your drawing will work too. My point is, that's the type of pin placement available to you for an early roll.
As I mentioned before, this is limited by how much side weight you can have. If there's no way of balancing, then you will have to explore a compromise between pin placement, cover, and maybe even CG position.

I did mean early roll. That's what you asked for in your thread, for the ball to hook earlier.
MB stands for Mass Bias. Darryl's assuming you're drilling an asymmetrical (core) ball. For balls with symmetrical cores, there is no MB.
It would help if you could mention which ball you want to drill. -

Indeed it is.
So darryl's drawing is correct. That is the general layout and position of CG, MB, and pin that you would use to induce early roll in a ball.
Don't worry too much about the pin position, bowler. The fact of the matter is, for asymmetrical cores, the MB location matters much, much more than the pin's. Even for normal balls, pin position only really plays a large part of a bowler's game at the very highest level. Most ball drillers in Singapore simply don't bother too much about pin position for the everyday, casual/recreational bowler.
