if cannot drink, wouldn't the muslim community mentioned about it already?Originally posted by dinky1409:Anyone can say something about newater? Whether its drinkable or not in the eyes of the Islamic laws..
Its not about what the community thinks. I'm just interested in the justification of NeWater in the laws of Islam. Because I know of some people who do not consume water from the common household tap (in which NeWater has been added) be it in form of cooking or drinking but somehow thinks that its 'pure' enough to be used for ablution, washing, and other uses other than consumption. I would think its a bit weird but still it got me thinking whether its drinkable or not. MUIS has given the green light but still there are some things that we as an individual cannot just place our trust on someone else.Originally posted by pqr:if cannot drink, wouldn't the muslim community mentioned about it already?

In Islamic legal terminology, such a change is called istihala. Since the newly transformed substance is not what it used to be anymore, it's legal status will change accordingly -- not only for external use but also for internal use." So, in changing poo poo and pee pee into drinkable water, which was first "unclean", then sterilized, refined, made palatable through many series of processes, is now very much edible.

Hmm.... unless I'm mistaken, the filtration process conducted by PUB involves passing the water through sand filters.Originally posted by dinky1409:Yes but no need to 'sertu' the water first? Use soil and all? I mean even if we were to touch a pig or dog, the rule is we have to sertu right? Don't tell me its acceptable if we can just sterilise our body parts that was in contact with pork or dog. Get what I'm trying to say? Hard for me to explain hehe sorry, I'm not good with words..
Someone told me some muslim people working at the plant don't drink the NeWater, don't know if its true or not..Originally posted by fudgester:Hmm.... unless I'm mistaken, the filtration process conducted by PUB involves passing the water through sand filters.
I don't know whether this considers the water as purified, but I suppose MUIS would have already had a look at it.
