did you not read the response from An Eternal Now on Rooney???
Hi!, here a link on how to become a bhikkhu:-
http://www.dhammadana.org/en/samgha/monks/become.htm
Anyway Rooney9 is not a monk yet,he still have to resolve issues first!
I am not familiar with entering the Sangha, some say you have to be twenty years old, another, if parents are alive, one have seek consent. Also, does one have to be a novice first, and if yes, for how long?
Why be a monk when you can lead a good and normal life??
There is this 1 week mediation at a remote mountain side (malaysia).
No talking and strictly on mediation.
2 meals. Morning and afternoon.
Evening time drink milo.
Chanting and mediation.
Clear your mind and peaceful.
sorry posted in wrong thread - aen

If one cannot read chinese, how to chant together among his peers?
Just like become a monk, you must know chinese characters right?
If not, how to chant?
Care to share your views?
Thanks.

if you have no money, how to seek treatment or go to see the doctor? will the temple foot the bill for you?
When one is prepared or meant to take on a pure spiritual/religious path, such concerns shouldn't be of importance to one, as things will fall into place to enable one's path to proceed smoothly. If such concerns are of importance and cannot be eliminated from one's mind and heart, then perhaps the path is not meant for one.

You will be surprised that many elderly Buddhists are not educated, many can't even write their chinese names but they can chant better than me. I did ask one of them why she can't even write her name in chinese but knows how to chant. She told me she prayed to Goddess of Mercy, asked her to bless her with wisdom so she could know how to read and chant.
Anyway, there are han yu pin yin in most of the scriptures. Did you see the woman whom Rony interviewed. She said she does not know Chinese well. She was also surprised that she could chant 普门 well for the first time as if she had chanted before. Unfortunately, she did not see the truth after all the miracles she had encountered in Buddhism.
