Saw some kids playing near the drain a few days back. It was after raining and the snails were crawling out of their hiding place looking for drier ground. Unfortunately for these gentle slow-moving creatures, the kids saw them. Without any hesitation, without any mercy, they attacked. Before I could stop them, they hopped around and crushed all the snails to their death. In the name of just having some funs, several lives were lost in an instant.
Not surprising, none of the snails survived. The kids’ scream of ‘Die snails! Die!’ echoed throughout my mind for the next few days. What’s happening to our children? Killer instincts behind those angelical smiles?
Maybe I think too much; maybe I should have continued my walk, thinking of what am I going to have for dinner. Big deal, they were just snails; the French have them on their menu for God sake. WhatÂ’s the fuss?
Somehow I just couldn’t help feeling sad for them. Just like our society, the slow moving ones were pushed aside, left behind, abandoned. Just like the snails, they were crushed intentionally and left to ‘die’ along the side way. Well, maybe it was just another day in the Urban Jungle.

Er... does killing of ants count as cruel?
Hmm... sometimes don't want to kill them also, since they work so hard. But they work so hard to eat my dinner leh, so must kill them loh.
