SDA team for Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC unveils election agenda
15 April 2006
The opposition team for Pasir-Ris Ponggol GRC has unveiled its election agenda and says aspects of it are similar to the PAP's manifesto.
The Singapore People's Party, a component of the Singapore Democratic Alliance, is gunning for Pasir Ris-Ponggol GRC under the leadership of SPP Assistant Secretary-General Desmond Lim.
The team has three thrusts to its campaign: create a country which makes family values its core value; maximise opportunities for all Singaporeans and addressing the foreign talent issue; and create a compassionate society which looks after the needs of lower-income earners and senior citizens.
They say most people have placed money as their top value and lost focus on family values due to the high cost of living.
This is something they want to change, said Mr Lim.
He said, "Since my campaign is so similar to PAP's manifesto, a good architect also needs a good quantity surveyor. I know what is my role now. If I am going to be elected as an MP, we will be the quantity surveyor to ensure that the specifications are being carried out."
Responding to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong's comment that the opposition has been reluctant to name their candidates, the SPP says they have a different election strategy.
They say they are here to sell their programmes and not individuals, and will announce their candidates once they know the election date.

SDA assembling team to contest in Tampines GRC
26 March 2006
Tampines residents will possibly get to vote yet again at the upcoming election as the Singapore Democratic Alliance says it is in the midst of assembling a team to take on the PAP in Tampines.
A team from SDA was at Punggol on Saturday, beginning their visit at Punggol Central.
Assistant Secretary-General Desmond Lim, part of a 6-member team planning to contest at Pasir Ris-Punggol, says his team is formed and ready, but will not rule out any last minute changes.
He tells Channel NewsAsia that SDA is currently assembling a team to be fielded in Tampines GRC.
The 5-member Tampines team, anchored by National Development Minister Mah Bow Tan beat SDA in the last election, with about 73 per cent of the votes.
Back in Punggol, Mr Lim says his team has been conducting nightly visits.
Mr Lim said: "Our ground work is not done just based on the last few weeks, but as far as earlier than last year. Only lately we try to intensify ourselves, we know what is the ground issues and the sentiments over here."
Rain or shine, the SDA team is set to up its presence in the estate.
Mr Lim says they will kickstart Phase 2 of their plans soon, but will not give too much away. - CNA/ch
