Why quality of mediacorp chinese dramas getting worse? Compared to chinese dramas in the 1990s, the quality of dramas now are getting worse and worse and more and more state propaganda weaved into plot of dramas.
What happened to local chinese dramas?
Should learn from Mediacorp Channel U crews. (groups) Even though they produce less dramas normally concentrate on HK dramas and local variety shows, they have managed to produce the best drama. Furthermore, they also got former Mediawork Channel U director Lin Pei Qing.
Anyway, I still miss the Mediaworks days :(
I'm loving the 7pm drama on ch8..
If you watch reruns of old chinese dramas in the 1990s and the ones produced in recent years, you can really notice the drop in standard. Script wise, acting wise all drop.
Worse of all it seems that every drama must sell some state propaganda in their story. It's so sickening and destroys the plot.
Cos now all government departments talking about productivity and saving costs, including Mediacorp.
No need for creativity. Its all about COST.
As for state propaganda, I think probably the government is scared of the internet spreading bad information about them?
So must use TV, which is a mass media to inculcate back the "wanted values" for us to be "more obedient" perhaps?
The 9pm show is a good example. IT TELLS YOU DO NOT BET.
Thankfully, the scriptwriter made the script entertaining and funny. Some of the scriptwriters in Mediacorp are really lousy.

But most of the scene always fighting/quarrelling one instead of the romatic part......
Unlike 9pm, it is really educational, romantic, and not really much quarrelling.
To compare former mediaworks with mediacorp, mediaworks had managed to produce most of the best and eductaional dramas.
If you watch 'OK no problem, Zero Storey, Tian Mi Feng Bao, Ji Xiang Ru Yi which mediacorp Ch 8 is repeating FOR THE SECOND TIME etc..' then you know what I am trying to day. These are called quality dramas!!!

lots of fighting/quarrelling but in the end sure all make up & get back 2gether again..
9pm one oso not bad..
The best TV era was when Channel U was under SPH and Channel 8 was under Mediacorp.
Mediacorp worked hard then, as SPH does not care about making losses, and provide the best entertainment ever for us.
Mediacorp actually lost to SPH, as Mediacorp is always talking about BUDGET, BUDGET and more PROPAGANDA while SPH is using creativity to appeal to mass audiences.
The 6:30pm Mandarin news is the most funny news of all. Enjoyed all the "North-Korean Style Reporting News".
Everyday, at least one report starts with "Zhen Fu Jiang Hao Zhi" (Garhmen shall use budget to....) and one report that starts with "Zhen Fu" (Garhmen) and confirm there will be one report showing the face of our "great leaders". About 50% of news is about garhmen. LOL....
Hope Sinagpore can be like Malaysia, Taiwan, China etc....
Setting up many channels, like in the past got Mediaworks. At the same time, creates many job opportunities since economy is good currently. Maybe has high chance for Allan Wu, Wong Lilin, Evelyn Tan, Huang Su Fang, Ericia Lee, Wang Yan Qing etc... of the quality actors/actress/ news reporter to 'Chong Chu Jiang Hu'

No competititor = no improvement = don't know their weaknesses.
Yahx, miss the time when Wang Yan Qing and Evelyn Tan reported Ch U news. Mediaworks managed to transform them from hosts to news reporter, unlike Mediacorp....... If mediacorp can, maybe can see Jeanette Aw, Jessica Liu, Quan Yi Feng etc... host the news instead of hiring those overseas reporters, waste of money......
Even PCK had to move production of the show over to Malaysia.
Cheaper, better, faster.

Cheapstake. Every weekdays 10am to 12pm, mediacorp boardcasts those 80s' and 90s'local drama. I thought the 25th anniversary drama campaign was over already two years ago?! Instead they should either ust boardcast the educational China dramas or repeat the 1st hand dramas for those who cannot catch it at night.

Some drastic actions need to be taken by mediacorps to make local dramas more appealing like the Korean dramas. Firstly, mediacorps need fresh faces. I am sick watching Adrian Pang in recent English dramas as if there are no other local faces.
Adrian Pang already resigned Mediacorp. That day he even said it on live TV during Channel 8's charity show. "Lim pei mai zorh leow"

They have totally neglected Celest Chong, Lynn Poh (even though she is featured in 7pm drama)
Fresh faces? Mediacorp had opened a lot of contest shows like: 'Campus Superstar, Wei Wo Du Zun, superhost etc.....' Artistes like: Li Teng, Yuan Shuai were from there.
You don't forget Charlyn Lin. Her popularity boomzed high coz she recently hosted the Thu 8pm show (don't forget to catch it as today is last epsiode)
But the above mentioned people do not really 'improve themselves' by participating in dramas.
Who needs mediacorp chinese dramas when there is Jack Neo?

Haha.. and Channel 8 news never even report on Jack Neo.
Resulting from cost control. Cheap production in Malaysia.
Saw them shooting in HDB area, walua eh the director demonstrated to tell them to shout which I deem it unnecessary. Watching this made me understand why the local chinese productions are noisy, shout shout shout.
I watch Taiwanese, Korean, Hong Kong dramas I hardly hear shouting.
The acting skills of the actors and actresses really cannot make it except a handful who are good.
some sg dramas are very noisy, esp the 7-8pm slot.. keep on fight here fight there..
perhaps lots of taiwan, korean and HK actresses sleep around more...thats why their acting skills or ermm popularity or exposure have rocketed sky high by leaps and bounds?
shouldn't we abscond watching their movies using that logic and be so stringent on ou own artistes?...
hoo hoo hoo....thats the entertainment industry......
why be so stringent on our own artistes when most of us so loved and admire foreign ones who have so much of news coverage of their sleep arounds? huh,,,
hoo hoo hoo...
