Mediacorp TV gets exclusive rights to co-produce and distribute Just for Laughs to Asia
Fans of the award-winning comedy show, Just For Laughs can look forward to a new series with an Asian twist come January next year.
Mediacorp TV has signed an exclusive agreement with Just for Laughs to co-produce and distribute the popular comedy series for the Asian market.
With support and input from JFL, Mediacorp TV will produce the first season.
Mediacorp will then produce the show in Singapore and other Asian countries for subsequent seasons.
The content produced in Asia will be integrated with material produced in Montreal, United States, the United Kingdom and sold worldwide.
Director General of the Just for Laughs production company, Mr Pierre Girard elaborates on the significance of the joint venture.
"You know we did the gags for 10 years, we're quite good at that. I think with the joint venture with Mediacorp, it would be fantastic and they help us alot to understand how the people are, how they will react, how we have to adapt our script to make it happen perfectly."
Mr Kenneth Liang, Executive Vice President of Mediacorp Channel Five's TV programming and production, sees the collaboration as a win-win situation for both parties.
"We are really very excited and this is the first of our international collaboration, this is the first baby that we are giving with collaboration from our friends in Montreal and Singapore and we hope that we can add alot of value to Just of Laughs with our Asian productions."
The first season will be filmed partly in Singapore and Montreal.
It will comprise 33 half hour episodes and distributed to other Asian countries like Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia, Phillipines.

ya i like to watch that!
just hope I'm not in it... However, I'm interested to see how Singaporeans react when they found out they are on the show...
yeah... I rmb gotcha... I predict some ppl will curse and swear when they found on they on the show...
they will censored the part when they kena, then scold knnbccb
if kanna on me, i dun think i can hold my words, let alone punches.
you see those ang moh kias kenna prank by JFL also laugh here and there...
If you do it in sg... I think most will either scold vulgarities/show black face... very typical us la... seems very hard to enter into asian market leh... lol...
I think sg should use
Just Tio Hoot!
i will pity the person who is performing the trick.
I wonder if singaporeans really ready for such practical jokes?
depends on my mood and what type of jokes.
if im relaxed, just walking around, den will try to entertain the whole stunt lor
if im rushing for time already, den want buy smth, den its a blardy stunt, hoseh liaos, XYZ coming out ler
if zhar bor I entertain...
if otherwise, I will mess up the whole joke...
Mediacorp, their sense of humour, can trust meh?
WOOTS! JFL rocks big time :)
I watched it when I was young and man, it sure was funny. Those poor victims and their faces (not being sadistic) really added a kick to the show. Love it lots :D
But... SINGAPORE? I'm really afraid that people that get pranked may go to the extent of giving the prankster a black eye. I'm not discriminating, since I'm a Singaporean myself. If I got pranked, I can't imagine what I would do to the prankster.
Oh well, westernised countries are more shuang3kuai4, so well, they shout something angry to the pranksters and storm off.
Well, here's an idea. Why not pay the "victims" and let them get pranked with a funny reaction? It's deceiving the audience, but still it won't let matters out of hand.
Remember Gotcha too! CMI lah...
Singaporeans don't have a sense of humour...
I prefer Just For Variety though :)

It really depends a lot on what kind of pranks , anyway if things really get ugly they can always not show those parts or remove the whole prank from the programme.
well I m kinda looking forward to this, should be better than the sucky gotcha!
it tot all mediacrap productions are "just for laughs"

hahaha. just hope they don't censor out. or maybe they could just censor out the vulgarities part with beep sound. that would be nice.
I can still remember one Gotcha episode long long time ago.
They planted some fake drugs and implicated the victims who was working there in the office.
I was like wtf.
These kind of things also can do. Serious offence in Singapore for drug related things.
Scare the shit out of the victims.

gotcha was a failure. Not funny at all. Not the producers' fault lah. Singaporeans just not sporting enough. You make fun of them, they give you a "wanna hood you" kinda look.
Will be interesting to watch
I really support Just for Laughs...
The producers are so creative to come up with new ideas to bring laughter out of the audiences easily. Their tricks are understandable without much talking or explanation.
I certainly take my hat of them.
i wouldnt be surprised if someone takes the producer to court
maybe, someone would stomp the actors ....
