Ng Hui is a mah jie (she mentioned that she has made the vow of celibacy which mah jie usually did in those days) working for a peranakan family.

Friday epsiode, Yueniang grew up liao. Tianlan (Yueniang's granny) cough and cough very sick. The peranakan family finally back from England and the children all grew up liao.
That's all I remember cuz I kept switching channels here and there.
then the stupid tua ji or something leh
she came back with vengeance right?
The TV series would be more authentic if they use more Baba/Nonya terms.
Like the use of Nya Nya for mother. Maybe more should be used.
And where is the joget? Baba/Nonya like to joget. Why no such scene?
Originally posted by Medicated Oil:Jeanette Aw - The purpose of the show is to move her to upper level of the ladder.
The seven princess struggles to make an impression with the singapore audience as they are marketed as pretty vase and empty inside.
It will take a very huge effort for these ladies to overtake Fann Wong as they lack the star appeal and worse of all, most of them cannot hold the show by themselves.
They have coupled the show with very strong cast of experienced actors and actresses to strengthen the weak story plot. (Same as price of peace as some one will get raped)
The problem with Aw is that she have been acting herself since day one.
No matter how she changed her role, the audience will still get the same version of her.
If she is unable to break out of this mould of her and let go of her inner pride, she will always give the audience the same old fierce face every time.
lol what seven princesses? as long as its singaporean actors/actresses..imnotinterested. fullstop. lol..
but fann wong realy that good meh..nv see anything special..maybe its cos of the way singapore films its dramas? i duno how to explain, but korea has its own 'video camera screen quality', japan has its own, and taiwan has its own.. i dun like taiwan and korea de.. duno why, but i feel the lighting too harsh. singapore de.. abit too 'indoor-sy' kind of feel lor..the acting by our mediacorp stars don help..
personally i quite like calvin soh (not a fan of his though) but he's malaysian, not our local talent.

what's joget?

joget is Malay word for dancing.
Not any type of dance but the Malay/Javanese/Thai type of free style dance.
With Arab/Indian drum, European violin and a type of hand-musical instrument.
Very hard for this show to have joget. The whole storyline is like very sad. The lead role JX and YN always get bullied. Very cham. Very poor thing. Always cry here cry there. Joget this kind of happy thing, will not be part of the script.
Dun understand why Mediacorp must make this very sad. Their idea is to intro Nonya stuff like the food and some culture. Dun need to make until so sad, right? this person die that person die. I would rather they do a comedy. More happy. The Peranakans that I know are very passionate about their life, very positive one.

Old school peranakans was strict but so were many other old schools, Chinese, Indian, English etc. All strict types.
There is a difference between strict and overkill negativity. No human or human history is complete sad or the other kind. More so when it has to be depicted in a film.
The whole film is a goatfark.
Baba/Nonya culture is very distinct from the maninstream Chinese. Obviously, the script writer didn't research enough or understand enough of the Baba/Nonya culture before writing.
Just as their food is unique so is their legendary joget. The Baba/Nonya are known for their 1st food, 2nd joget.
Sad or happy, joget is the very blood of their culture.
tts why it's called drama and not documentary?

We are not talking about documentary here.
Even in drama, if they want to depict culture, they have to depict it properly mah.
