Food, film and weepy drama serials aside, fans of all things Korean can now look forward to a Korean radio show on Singapore's airwaves.
Come Feb 1, you can tune in to Korean programming on MediaCorp Radio's FM96.3 The International Channel from Monday to Friday, 9pm to 11pm.
The programme will include contemporary K-pop music, news updates from South Korea and, for Korean expats living here, useful tips on living in Singapore.
To launch the broadcast, an official signing between MediaCorp Radio and Briyo Media was held yesterday at the Grand Hyatt Singapore.
Present at the signing ceremony were Minister Lee Jong-kook and the First Secretary Jeon Seong-oh from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, as well as managing director of MediaCorp Radio Philip Koh, deputy chief executive officer (NRP) of MediaCorp Radio Shaun Seow and CEO of Briyo Media Lisa Cheong.
"Our immediate plans will be focused on two areas. Firstly, we would like to ensure that our mix of information and entertainment meets the needs of our target audience.
"Secondly, we aim to market the programme to the Korean expatriate community and to Singaporeans who are interested in learning more about the Korean culture," said Cheong.
Lee An, a South Korean singer for whom Singapore is the launching pad of his regional music career, also performed at the signing ceremony.
"I am very happy to be part of the launch of the first Korean timebelt in Singapore, and I hope that Korean music will become more popular among Singaporeans," he said.
