WASHINGTON : Jennifer Aniston will not be hearing wedding bells in the near future : her publicist has denied a report the "Friends" star was engaged to long rumored beau Vince Vaughn.
Hopes the two would stage Hollywood's latest celebrity wedding were sent soaring by a report in US Weekly magazine.
But Aniston's publicist said the report was not true.
"The US Weekly report is incorrect. They're not engaged," was the word from the office of publicist Steven Huvane.
US Weekly had reported the two stars, who recently paired up as a separating couple fighting over their condo in the comedy "The Break-Up," were engaged on June 27 after a long furtive relationship marked by claims that they barely knew each other.
"Like any bride and groom, you tell the news to some people. This engagement happened more than six weeks ago. It took a while for news to trickle out," US Weekly editor Janice Min said on NBC television, adding that her magazine had "multiple" sources.
Min said Vaughn proposed to Aniston aboard a private jet returning from a nine-day holiday in Mexico.
"Vince had the ring and got on one knee and proposed and Jennifer said yes," she said.
Aniston's love life has been the focus of intense news coverage ever since she divorced mega-star Brad Pitt.
The two divorced in 2005 after a five-year fairy-tale marriage matching two of the film and television industry's biggest stars. Some reports said that Aniston had rebuffed Pitt's desire to have a child.
Even before the divorce was finalized Pitt launched an affair with Angelina Jolie, and the two have since had a child together.
In an interview several weeks ago, Aniston said she harboured no bitterness about her high-profile break-up with Pitt. - AFP
