it means that you can't shock a person unless he has an irregularly weak pulse. If his heart does not display any activity, defibs have no use. CPR should be used instead to pump blood to the brain since the heart cannot do so.Originally posted by ouchtthurt:So, if i didnt infer wrongly, he had a suspicious spinal injury and his heart had already stopped. Thus rendering CPR and all that useless isist? The defrilbrilator was useless as well because of?

isn't that what they always encouraged before and during any runs??Originally posted by cornyfish2000:Quite a few cases of young people collapsing and dying during runs recently... They must have pushed themselves beyond their physical limits.

but it is quite disappointing that the event officials including the ministers who took part...
sounded quite insincere saying condolences for the family but in the same sentence mentioned they already put in place all necessary medical personnel.
sounds they are washing their hands
wait a min, i thought defibs are used only if no pulse is detected? if u say he has a irregular weak pulse, Defib cant be used rite?Originally posted by PointBlue:it means that you can't shock a person unless he has an irregularly weak pulse. this is interesting, remember there is also a case of someone about 1-2 years back, where the person crossed/almost cross the finishing line and then died?Originally posted by nanren4ever:This is probably one of those cases where the mind pushes the body to extremes, and even though he crossed the finishing line, the body collaspe. Its really sad and scary to think that people can drop dead just like that. Makes u really wanna treasure life even more.
Its not about pulse, its about the beating of the heart. Even if no pulse is detected, the heart might still be beating, just that the rhythm is unable to pump blood to a point where the pulse can be felt.Originally posted by borntolive:wait a min, i thought defibs are used only if no pulse is detected? if u say he has a irregular weak pulse, Defib cant be used rite?
But if the runner pulse has not been detected, why defib not given?

Why no MO there?Originally posted by PointBlue:i was there as part of the organizers of AHM... 41SAR
the medical platoon came from us, and my medic friend was there to pull him out. the senior medic from kranji mc performed the CPR but sadly, he wasn't revived.
i was told he went unconscious suddenly and fell.
it's so sad, i watched every single one of the OCS people walk past me to form up at the start line, i never thought that one of those unknown faces would die today...
MO cant be in every single location la... but at finishing point there should be at least a MO wad?Originally posted by croco2006:Why no MO there?
