he's making the whole unit look bad when its nt the whole unit's fault. though spds shld be the best la, but jus becos one mistake u curse them like crazy le. really too much lehz.

I think this august performance is around the same standard when i watched NCC girls doing their drills with a light mock Mark4?
Most of the mistakes are memory mistakes which i think is ridiculous. The men did not put in enough effort to memorise the drills.
The drills done in the video are not of high risk, in fact, some are actually basics, and the standard is quite bad. ( in terms of the weapon angle and weapon stability).
I have seen some videos but not a lot live performances. I have seen mistake like toss dropping. But i guess those are forgivable as they are using risk in exchange for higher audience satisfaction.
However, standing there don't know wat to do, look here look there, salute till want to fall down, ai mai ai mai... really disgusting.
Change of Guards is a monthly affair and has become a routine for the SPDS. There should not be excuses like no time to train or no time to pass down because training schedule are normally planned ahead.
Maybe to some this is just a little flop or small mistake, but to me it is not. To me it is horrendous.
How to improve: (Just hoping the Squad members will see my post...)
Anxiety is inevitable, but courage can be built up. Rehearse in front of the unit during the morning live activities can build up courage as the whole unit will be watching the performance. More feedback also can help to improve.
Memory mistake is unacceptable. Recite the drills b4 u eat breakfast/lunch/dinner/b4 sleeping. Doing out whole sequence with a small water bottle and practise jerking of elbow/ flipping of fingers even when walking out of camp to MRT station. At home better, can use umbrella to practise!
For those who cannot catch the beat, open your GOLDEN MOUTH and start counting timing during practise/rehearsals. During any performance, one cannot be depending on the others, so the more one should not be affected by others if u are alert and concentrating.
I know it is unfair to judge the unit with just this performance, but this is a state ceremony. Afterall, not everyone has the prestige chance to march down the roads of Orchard, representing the state. So soldiers pull urselves together and make future performance better! All the best of Sept performance! -
lol@venny again. Did I condemn all MPs because of what happened this COG? I suggest you reread everything, I said this bunch of xin jiaos acting like clowns and their chief instructor is the biggest clown ever in SPDS history. Unless you're the chief instructor that I'm flaming, I don't think you have to respond with such vigilance as if you were the founding father of SPDS.
By the way, Saint was saying some commanders act without considering issues of manpower and experience, I merely agreed. You need to L2Read forums properly.do you even know wats the req to get that drill badge?
wowh4x apparently I don't know what's required but somehow that badge is my closet along with a #1, peak cap + accessory. Maybe I bought it from Beach RD, can't remember.

venny, you seem very upset by us flaming those performers. However, if you were really old school, you'd be as enraged as we are. This kinds of makes me suspect that you aren't old school, perhaps you're even on of the performers. In which case, i apologise for the harsh criticisms, since its true there are so many factors that are to blame (ie the guys are too new, their workload too much...)
but however, LOL at the sgt standing in front. really no excuses for him... he's a regular and hes been in apc for some time.... this one i know for a fact. -

venny, you seem like you are defending those sorry bunch of noobs as if you were one of them. hey, the fact is this : THEY SUCK, no two ways abt it. and why do they suck? coz their commanders and instructors suck.... come on man, the guy looking around for help is a farking regular 1SG, and yet he is looking at LCPs for help... wth man, he must not be forgiven...... the drills are worse than those put up by NCCs..... I reckon that this SPDS be disbanded and that 1sg be punished, to save further humiliation to old timers..... this is really sad...

Nope, I kena three national parades before. NDP both years during NS (albeit one as mobile column) & a Military Tattoo during reservist. If you wanna count all rehearsals plus the real thing, then my ante is 20-plus trips to the National Stadium *sob* Taught a mono-intake batch & performed for a military funeral too. Hence long-realized how Hokkien peng tend to be completely clueless with the Malay language, let alone unfamiliar drill commands.
Of course, you're referring to the GOH contingents. They're more conspicious & generally solid, but IMO not as sharp as those Police units I've seen. Mata side really drill siong-siong! Even NCC Land cannot fight with NPCC, in my days. Then again, it's our Malay brethen who get posted more to wear the blue, so they have the advantage of both language & a proud historical heritage.
As for the drill snafu, I'm more bummed that it was caught on video. Meaning it's recorded for prosperity, leaving SAFPU one heck of a mess to live down. But they know the occasion was the Istana COG, so WTF happened? -
SAFPU should just simply disband the precision drill n formed an MP hotline to deal with the bullying cases n ill treatment.

SAFPU use to hold the highest standards of drills i heard. Doing trooping of colors for SAF Day parade, and of cos the unique SDPS.
I think not only the SPDS reflected in the video is below standards, if we film down the guards in no. 1, i think they are equally bad. Every command can hear bird shit dropping...
Overall performance seems going downhill recently.. hmm sad.. -

I dare say I have never had a wrong leg or mistakes during performances. During training alot but those are for greater good that I would strive to perform my best during performance. My drills might not be as high level as my very elite friends but at least I didn't screw up. So what have you, Venny? Care to reveal your dubious background?
Shibaa I think you should be elected as their new chief instructor, maybe the current one should be demoted to private.. his trainees did so much better than him in that COG, ludicrous. -
Last time it peaked becos we have delicated n specialised coy for the drills precision. Now the strength have downsize but the requirements of a simple contingent stays . Which equates to having divided dedication to perform more demanding tasks. LIke i said, some jobs that need to be specialised , have to be specialised . But the higher ups refuse to acknowledge the severe situation n choose a convient n short-term solution to solve a long term problem. They making every1 jacks of all trades masters of none n they wishes to uphold the reputation with these shiit ?? that's why when such things happen, it is up to the direct superiors of the NSF performers to help defend their men. Shouldn't the OC, 2I/C or PC of these NSFs help voice out the implications such a downsize would mean to the higher ups? In which case I see that these NSFs were pushed to do all thes shit because their direct superiors fark care them and this is dereliction of duty by their commanders. Im sure the higher ups would listen and take into serious consideration the consequences had the squad's commanders voice out their concerns since this involves the reputation of MP command.

i was part of the air force contingent GOH for ndp 2006, didnt participate this year because of my ord date on the 7th of august, and also because i opted out due to an injury early this year, missing out on trainings.
but i have to say alot depends heavily on the trainers, our 4 fds unit rsms were our trainers and all of them are from MP, and all of them are really old school, fellow air force goh in here will recognise these nicknames (i guess). ah pek, xiao ri pen (small japanese) the other two are more degrotary so i wont post

but they have high standards and are proud of thier uniform, wearing thier temasek green whenever they can
. hamtum us like nobody business, and always start from scratch, retraining every basic movement and emphasis on sharpness.
well i don't know that air force is really the best, but thier traning really makes it second nature to your drill movements. they really "drill" it into us. -
precisely, GOH and SPDS has always been MP's forte, I mean who would remember MPs for raiding camps and punishing those who broke the law? That's why this month's COG was a total letdown, and it did make a big dent in MP's reputation

This performance is really cmi sia.
If they dun have time to train for those more advanced drills, then they should jolly well stick to simplier drills (VOS, Slope arm, etc) n "easier to manage" formation (Block, for instance where those at the back can at least follow whoever is at front.)
