The lbv is hard to wash, after BIC especially. And cos its like a vest, so it gets sticky if u sweat too much and it stinks. SBO only has got two straps, so it hardly absorb all the sweat.
my unit wanted the pouches location to b standardized so making it rather useless.. -
the concept of lbv is good, but to implement it perfectly confirm very hard.
heat/lack of ventilation is a factor, the weight of it is also a factor, but what i dislike most about it is all the straps can tear quite easily esp the water bottle pouch area. especially during long route marches, the water bottle pouch area will always rub against your hip/thigh and so it breaks quite easily. and once the strap has loosened/slackened after some form of wear and tear occurs, abrasion will occur! i still remember route marching with my right arm carrying the water bottle pouch so that it doesnt slack and touch my leg (abrasion) instead of holding onto my pistol grip.. so only my left hand and the sling is supporting my rifle. this led to the sling creating another abrasion on my shoulder -___-" hahaha -
a lot of people nowadays route match until they get fever.
in singapore climate, the LBV is only making the whole situation worse.
thick jacket with water pouch insulator= hot= sweat like fcuk= heat exhaustion, heat stroke etc.. = saf kenna bang = commanders kenna bang= charge victim for not taking precautions.
the victim loses out. -

As for route marches, yeah i agree the waterbag gets in the way. What i do is remove it and stuff it into my field pack.
I wonder, are u using the D&G LBV or the Force 21 one? I'm using the force 21 one and no problems at all. -

Commanders make it a standard that everyone in my company must bring goretex, toggle rope and RCK. So all these are put in the utility pouch. LBV is a bad ideal with all the standardisation cause LBV supposed to be personalized. There's still improvement that needs to be done with the LBV.
Personally i think the SBO is better, good ventilation, don't restrict movements, easier to wear and you can feel the butt of the rifle better. -

Those carrying the M203 appreciate the new LBV cause they don't have to use the stupid bandolier that needs to be tied around the chest on top of the SBO that was really hard to use.

Standardization is taken to an extreme at the expense of comfort and ergonomics. These people completely miss the point. -

i would say there should be minimum comfort and ergonomics to soldiers
soldiers are not customers
standardization is a must, if not there is no wayang, there is no armed forces -

Considering ur generation doesnt have to squash everything into a puny fieldpack like my did.
I had rifle cleaning kit,gore-tex and 1x24hrs meal rations in my utility pouch.And apparently more can go in.
Anyway the old SBO we had a whistle and L torch on the right and left respectively.So we had to learn to move the Whistle our of the way before shouldering our weapons in BMT that is. In unit whistle be damned lol
Left handed shooters were in trouble becuz of the L torch.
I blame it on standardization.Which likes everyone says and knows, the SAF takes alittle far.And defeats the whole purpose. -

i dun find standardization an issue..i was lucky that i have mature open commanders and I myself got input from my men on how their SBO, LBV and/or standard items should be like...
but then again..my men were medics...
last but not least..
the LBV is not so bad as u all think....godsend cos everything is within reach... -
i saw the LBV selling at beach road.....
for a whooping $250!!! -
Who will want to buy? So expensive. Even sign 1206 also cheaper than this.
