Ex regulars turned OM are good in 2 things:
1. Sux up to the boss
2. Doing the unneccessary.
Typical army style.
Of cos there are also some efficient OMs Ex- Regulars. -
imo, i think nothing is impossible. I have frens from Normal Tech stream, went ITE, then further studies in Poly, then trying to enter Uni now. It is the matter of attitude.
Same way for a regular who has not been exposed to the outside world. If u can prove ur diligence, i am sure u can shine and catch up.
Imo, there seems to be a stigma attached to regulars:
They like to push faults away and hope to stay safe, act blur. This is something i cannot stand.. hahaha -
Not many regulars would volunteer to go to Iraq or Afghanistan, IMHO. But I guess the same applies to NSFs and NSmen.

As an Operations Manager, you will help maintain general discipline in the school by assisting the Disciplinary Master or Mistress in planning, implementing and enforcing the disciplinary policy of the school. Besides reviewing and maintaining the security of the school, you will also maintain and analyse disciplinary records and data of pupils. You will also assist in matters related to school estate management and the provision of logistics support for school activities, excursions and functions.
Entry Requirements
· Singapore Citizen or Permanent Resident
· Polytechnic diploma in any discipline
For the position of Operations Manager, only former MINDEF or MHA uniformed
officers are eligible to apply.
Remuneration Package
Successful candidates will be offered appointment on contract basis. The appointment grade and starting salary will be commensurate with the academic qualifications and work experience of successful applicants. Those who have completed full-time National Service will be granted increments. -
Six years is very short. Unless you are an MO, free education etc, i think you should stick with it at least until you hit MAJ...as for job opportunities afterwards, alot depends on your education, where you want to work and of course networking.
A former officer i knew quitted as a LTA and now works in the Tourism Board. A former WOSE i knew quitted and moved house to the Middle East for a job.
It all depends on your connections...if you know the right people, nothing can stop you. This all depends of course on that you're not a total wanker... -

Three things:-
1. A Levels or Diploma already good enough for OCS.
2. OCS entry is based on BMT results, even for regulars. It's unlikely the SAF will fast-track you -- unless you've earned it on merit & THEN signing on, for example. Plus those Tekong instructors can sabo your career prematurely if you're clearly unqualified.
3. No such thing as "private degree". Anyone is free to study via distance-learning (i.e. private schools) or online courses, but better make sure their degrees are properly accredited by their source country & are also "recognized" in S'pore. Otherwise, even civilian employers won't necessarily hire you, if they're clueless about the quality of your academic/training course. -

The issue is, is the university awarding the degree accredited in its home country? If it is, then you are entitled to be paid on a graduate regular payscale as an officer.Originally posted by Resentment:is private degree eligible to sign for officer?
For example if your private degree is awarded by an American university, you can check if its accredited - go to http://www.chea.org and see if its listed there.
