and the rappelling...cant even see them at all due to the brightness of the sparks. camera also cant zoom into them. personally i felt that the commandos' efforts were all wasted...
for those who wants to see how the actual effects were supposed to look like, can look for video clips/pictures of the preview. -

Very impressed with the overall coordination this time around, from my vantage point (Pan Pacific). Two new sub-service branches (RSN & the police equivalent, PCG) were prominently featured for the first time, & the Marina Bay setting wasn't like just having a mini-fortilla sailing past a few years ago. No idea if they've switched around the show items, but otherwise I can appreciate just how difficult the coordination was, given the heavier emphasis on hardware (more actual performances this year, & not just forming a mobile column) & on a largely watery-cum-"riverbank" setting at that.
The parade sequence never fails to rouse me. Those troops in the contingents are always mostly NSFs, albeit more & more "specky" (wearing spectacles) ~lol~ through the years. Looks like floating stadium will change how the contingents form up for the next 5 years too. In my time, we must stay motionless for over an hour (before the Prime Minister made his arrival). All in all, it would be one & a half before the GOH finished its march-past! (Quite gruelling -- though it's a lot better than the '70s when the ENTIRE contingents must march part.) Likely on an empty stomach too; I recall my unit getting to eat a quick dinner post-parade sequence, before filing in again as part of the finale item.

Everytime the RL jump from the super puma, it looks really dangerous. Because when they jump from the side of the puma,the camera angle shows the clearance they make with the helicopter to be very very little. Especially since the puma's undercarriage area jutt out one. Besides in Singapore most freefalls are done by chinooks right? And the RL team which landed before the parade and during the parade, were they the same people? -

"We got a very good aerial display from the helicopters carrying 2 Singapore Flags yesterday's evening from my Thomson Apartment.
"These pictures were taken against the setting sun of the silver lining clouds," STOMPer P Wong said on Friday (10 August).
"They were circling around their holding area above the Lower Pierce Reservoir for more than half an hour until it is time for the Chinooks carrying the flag to fly to Marina Bay.
