was talking with my friend over the phone to confirm about this. what he told me was it seems like the previous batch of BMT trainees ( the january ones ) had a change with the SOC rundowns. it has been modified to a total of 150m rundowns and ups. its only when one is posted to the unit like OCS or SISPEC it will still be the usual 1300m rundowns and ups.
just to clarify with people who still have doubts about this

point to point, BMTC instructors know the limits of recruits one lor. just that right now is downright ridiculous lah....ok maybe what i saw was first 2 weeks, but still the outfield, the soc, thats not bmt lor -

and no matter how slack the training can ever get i'm sure they still do suffer someway or another. though it may not be as bad as your batch or the older batches.
BMT is how the SAF decides it to be. they make give the recruits more welfare would also mean giving less problems for themselves. don't have to always hear negative feedbacks from parents. anyway SOC in units would be same as before. this is only BMT. so why complain? -
Let me just put down my 2 cents point of view.
IMHO, you don't need vulgarities to train an efficient army, neither do you need to curse and swear to get the point across.
I am speaking from experience, because I do not use all kinds of vulgarities on soldiers, and all have turned out fine. It may achieve even better results than you may be thinking now.
This is from a commander's point of view. (After the recruit has finished BMT and has been posted into a unit). As for whther bulgarities are needed during BMT itself before the recruit become a private, that is for your debate.
Nonetheless, I think to swear at recruits during BMT is not necessary too. You can get the point across in other ways, if you command the respect of the men. And from my experience, if you curse and swear at recruits, you will probably gain no respect from them, only.. dislike (to say the least). And that is not something you want. -
I remember what my OC told us when we were going thru hell. "More sweat in peacetime equates to less blood in wartime."
I do believe that although vulgarities should be used sparingly, it is necessary to evoke the stress and shock value of tough training. If everything is so civilised, the men will break ranks and run when the going gets tough. The men should be more afraid of their officers than of the enemy.
The nature of military training is that it is not easy. It is not meant to be. By sugar-coating the reality of warfare and sheltering the troops, we are in fact sabo-ing them as most of them will probably fall in combat. The greatest welfare is safe, tough and realistic training. Because at the end of the day, that's what separates a man from a body bag. -
not even BMT is slack, when they come out sama-sama. those who went reservist will noe.

what snk86 said is correct, i'm a recruit from gryphon coy and soc now is 50m start 50m end and our commanders at the start of bmt even asked if anyone of us is sensitive to the use of vulgarities
