about the swearing its just like, for example, at home if u swear your parents will scold u make sure u dun swear... but when u outside u scold like nobodys business... even minor stuff like whiskey tango foxtrot... when ure out there in a rage would u thik twice about not swearing? vulgarities r bad yes but then in this society, dun think ppl would be bothered much about them... unless they play parents different la~
if army so slack, training all reduced n slack, i dunno what NS would be 10 years down. National Slack... maybe even mercenaries... -

1. If the commander, in this case the "training sergeant" , cannot be physically fitter than a BMT recruit how is he to command the respect of his men?
2. As a trainer, the standard of the men under his charge reflects on his competency as an instructor.
3. There have been cases where the instuctors went "power crazy" and start making the recruits do all kinds of funny stuff. This is wrong.
HOWEVER,
There is always the drawback that weak "training sergeants" will neglect to discipline their men properly to save themselves some punishment. In this case it is up to the OC/PC to measure up the performance of the company and act accordingly. -

Like many before me have mentioned u dun have to use vulgarities to get things done.
So why the need for vulgarities? i think i get it, coz the older batches have been exposed to that kind of environment where their superior kept abusing them with expletives.

i guess what i wanna say is just.. use vulgarities only when needed. try to refrain from using it.
everyone has their reasons in using and not using vulgarities. both are right, in their own ways. anyway guess the main reason for this thread should be discussing abt the slack-ness in BMT nowadays.
well all i can say if you wanna blame, you only have the weaker lao jiaos to blame. ain't gonna complain much since i'm going to enjoy the welfare given to recruits as compared to the past.
who knows maybe 20 years from now they might abolish NS and all men of aged 18 and above have to serve at least 2 years in the RnD department and chip in ideas to create a stronger nuclear weapon
though i have no idea what's a 50m rundown or something but i guess it definately ain't so simple as to give such a task for an abled body man.
another point i would like to add. please do not stereotype all recruits to be weaklings kae. anyway life isn't fair. people who have been through NS earlier have their advantages, people who go through NS at a later stage have their advantages.
older batch people: trained up to be a REAL MAN. as emphasized by most i suppose.
new batch people: got welfare. won't get punished as much.

Sigh. Why does this always happen? Why do people always like to make it like some people are more important than others in the SAF. And why the CAPS and the vulgarities. Really shows a lack of intelligence in some people here.

I wonder if there is such a thing as civilised army. Well in the American civil war, it was fought 'gentlemanly' and officers could not be shot at. It changed to how we fight wars now and since when did anybody say that being a soldier was easy? Of course people asking for NS to be more slack or more efficient is just quite selfish.
What if one day, SG really goes into war and with our sissyfied training how are we supposed to win? If we dont win, ALL will die. Your parents, your loved ones, your friends. Even you yourself. I'd rather live my life knowing that I've got the best training I can have, am prepared, confident of myself so that i can keep myself alive and perhaps protect my friends and family who cant defend themselves.
If we are all softies, how are you going to fight to survive?
Why rely on other people to protect you when all men should be capable of protecting himself and others. Expect regulars to do all the fighting for you? Please, how many are there. Don't just think about giving yourself the easy way all the time, can we all rise up to the challenge to protect our families when the need arises?
btw about the vulgarities thing, yes it may be deemed barbaric or whatever you call it. No doubt sometimes it is uncalled for, but I feel that sometimes you really need to wake them up and scolding does work. It sets an example for the rest. And that is quite powerful.
But i also understand that constant unnecessary use of it will reduce the effectiveness when compared to a rare occasion of a verbal abuse. Perhaps this is what several members are driving at. All in all, different people different working style some scold more some scold less. In the Army, your PS/PC during BMT is your boss, hurls vulgarities at you wtf can you do? Since there is no way out. Suck it up like a man and get on with it. Calling your mom to complain is what primary school kids do. Not adults. Not Men. -

i find it pointless for bmtc instructors to do punishment with the men...it is wrong..cos they arent gonna lead those men...just train them....the faster the recruits accept the fact that they are s h i t....the easier BMT will be for them
