  All i can say is enjoy your NS. I once saw a Caucasian American who happen to be born in Singapore serve NS. So i do not think u will be treated differently.

  im a full Korean serving in ns rite now.
  im currently in SISPEC.
  
  you won't be treated differently, but like all of the ppl said already, they kinda like.. expect you to stand out in most of the things you do just cuz your from a different country.
  
  i had a japanese guy in my BMT platoon too. he's english was horrible, but he survived through.

  IC = In charge, it's a rotated duty taken up in basic training, some of you guys will take turns to be the platoon IC.
  
  Don't worry about OCS/SISPEC yet. Focus on basic training first. In any case, OCS is a 8mth course, and SISPEC is similar in length.
  
  And yeap, try to mix around your bunk mates and learn all sorts of local lingo, it will help a lot

  I think with all the talks about 3g transformation, i think the biggerest transformation or achievement for SAF is its enrollment of domestics import of foreign ethnic Singaporean. Wouldn't it be cool to have an Ang Mo general ? That would confuse our neighbor and the west!!!!
  
  Joint excerise with the US with an Ang mo officer,,,,may confuse to be an american soldier wearing SAF uniform until he start speaking : LAH!

  Pls understand the word "Jap" use by the american when they fought with the Japanese during WWII. It is a connotation against Imperial army of Japan.
  
  Now the fellow singaporean are serving SAF so the appropriate word choice to treat your fellow SAF men would be at least Singaporean with Japanese origin.
