Army was never meant to be comfortable. Discipline and comfort never goes together.
I do agree that some SGTs are ego-maniacs, so they like to cause a big din to feel good. But most of them are reasonable. One recruit getting into trouble equals the SAF becoming very gan jiong. -
i agree with some replies to this thread, that even though we may be a conscript army, an army made of not-so-willing 'volunteers', but we are still essentially an armed force. A organisation that has to bear arms and fight if the need arises.
Sucky as it may seem, but i'm telling you at this current state I don't even know how long our people can hold out in an armed conflict, we have all the hardware and software, but as cliche as it may seem... we're really lacking in the heartware.
People who are willing to push themselves to see to it that out future is secure. Tough training? take it like a soldier. Soldiers die everyday, it's an accepted fact due to the inherent risk of being in green.
The SAF has done alot to ensure safety and sometimes it gets painfully annoying, but this delicate balance of tough and realistic trg vs keeping our soldiers alive is very diffcult to balance.
SO far the SAF has err to the side of caution i.e. very safe training. Let's air our views, yes, but also reflect on what is the army meant to do. -

think abt it tough training is needed for whatever vocation ok this is appropriate but think abt it what will parents feel whenever they hear of such unfortunate news on the tv
can they refuse to send their sons for NS? NO. they can't. its every males' duty and responsibility to fully serve tt 2 years as part of their life
everyone haf a limit. they can do a lot of things but everyone i believe will reach a certain point and haf to stop they can't continue becos its beyond their limit
being pushed too hard in the army leading to suicide cases

if u haf been training urself for NS.. i think when u walk into the BMT.. u will find tt everything will be a daily routine for u...
so, dun complain.. and walk into NS with an open mind and enjoy it while u can.. its just 2 short years out of your whole life.. which is less than how long u will spend in the toilet in ur whole life... -

and why everytime muz wait till something unfortunate happen then mindef investigate this and that and offer condolence to family? its alrdy too late
come on death and incidents can be PREVENTED in the first place and not wait until it happened alrdy then look into this and that its alrdy too late. y can't saf clear welfare rules one shot? -
SAF is one of the most lenient armed forces around the world. when my friend when for a course in the france army through ncc, one participant died. you have obviously no knowledge of how tough the training is in other armed forces around the world.Originally posted by AhJun:one of saf core value is care for soldier

Death and accidents can be prevented only if every soldier is perfect. No one is. People are flawed, and it was tragic that 2SG Hu had to die in training to force a review of their CST policies. -

with the more relax rules towards BMT intake compare to the past, think is the young generation is to blame than push the blame to SAF.
maybe you should sign on and become a General, than you can changed the Core Vaule to what you expect to be.

i always believe in 1 thing, Train Hard Fight Easy.
i rather soldiers train n push themselves during training to prepare themselves in wartime than to slack during training n go unprepared in wartime.
n oso... do u noe that Care For Soldiers DO NOT only refer to welfare?
training a soldier hard, enabling him to survive in wartime rather than giving him slack training, leave him without survival skills in wartime is oso Care For Soldiers.
lastly, if u choose to fall out during training in bmtc, i'm 100% sure ur commanders will allow. unless is u kena a small cut on ur hand from a tree branch then u request to fall out from the training. -

SAF BMT training is NOTHING compared to other countries.
If we don't have this level of training our army will be Sri Lanka's army, unable to fight against the Tamil Tigers.
Ever seen a Marine go thu quantico? Watch the "Full metal jacet" if you have the chance, then you will realise your own BMT is nothin... at least no one physicall hits you. -
