Arty Fire

Was watching Band of Brothers and am curious about one thing, mebbe guys from Arty can help with this.Is it true that like lightning, arty fire is unable to hit the same spot twice? Making the spot which was last hit safest as compared to those around it?

Hmmm... Not sure about that but if repeated fire missions from multiple batteries of guns, probably can hit the same spot...

Lets say a battery of 4 guns, firing on the same coordinates as an example

i would think arty fire can hit the same area twice, although the chances are extremely slim.
In any case arty fire is very powerful and demoralising for troops, so even if you get a second one near by it's equally bad. -
Try the new guided arty rounds. Might be able to hit the same spot twice.

I think it is just the simple concept of probability. If you are randomly bombarding upon a certain area, what are the chances of one spot being struck more than once? Not very high. It's just like the chances of shooting an arrow into the same spot as one already stuck on the target board.

arty is meant to provide somewhat wide area strikes. and of course it must be able to strike at the same target area more than once.

Alright, lets say that all else remains constant in terms of the equipment, Arty caliber say 155mm, shells used is High Explosive. Read that the "effective" blast is approx. 100m, so lets say that 2 salvos of 4 rounds from 4 guns are fired, is there a high chance for the rounds to all land within the same area? Given that a competent FO is tasked to watch the fall of the rounds?

Yeah, not enlisted yet. Just very into military stuff and read about them whenever I can. Used to be into modern day warfare, but a good friend introduced me to Clausewitz,Napoleonic wars and ancient warfare and how it affects the modern day. hanor hanor, nowadays they have arty munitions that home in on metal, and last I heard, human heat signatures.

Military Histroy is a very interesting hooby. But wars are so unconventional nowadays. However the principle of warfare still largely remains unchanged.
An advice to TS, reading up is a good thing, but don't have such a glorified image of our Army. it's really no where what you read in books about battles and warfare.
But if there are books on technical aspects of infantry movement and what not, maybe that's good to read up. -

Not really into Arty as I don't really have a gd understanding of how they work. More into Air Assault Infantry and AI. -

Once the initial volley is corrected by the FO, it should be bombs away.

Yeah, Air Assault refers to the Guards in SG context. Haha, thats what my friends already serving tell me. Its their deployment method and tactics which fascinate me, same as that of the AI. -
Cool. Remember to mention that to ur PC during ur PC interview at BMT. Ask him to reccomend you to the above formation and vocations. Best if you can make it to SISPEC and then head over from there.
