No smoking in public for SAF personnel

From May 93, all SAF personnel were banned from smoking in public. From Aug 93 those who failed to abide were fined $50 for the first offence and $100 for subsequent offences.
How come still can see NS men in uniform smoking in public? And some are even senior ranking?

Last time during my NSF and NSmen days, I really dun know tat while in uniform cannot anyhow smoke outside the camp.

if a MP pass by a area, and he saw a LTC smoking, i wonder what will he do

wah lau eh, after one NDP rehearsel, i always see SAF personnel smoking outside indoor stadium. if that wasn't bad enuff, they were wearing NO.1 and smoking in full view of the public

RSM needs the soldiers to be around when fall-in, so cannot let them wander off, to hide and smoke. Also, RSM can mingle among them to smoke, so less obvious.

Cannot smoke in uniform was a rule that i learnt during my enlistment in 2001.
I made it a point never to smoke in public, cos you never know when MP might be around, even if they are not in uniform. Or who knows, some siao on officer in civi might come over and F me for doing it.
I remember, there were some occasions when i seriously needed to smoke in public and i was uniform. what i did was i went to some discreet ulu corner outside the shopping mall where no one walk and smoke. you know, tactical.
but yeah, do anything you want, just dont get caught.
as for LTC smoking in public, MP can go up and book him. hell, even if it's LCP MP also can book him, as long as he is polite. Any MPs here, please verify? because i only recall from memory. (im not MP). -

didn't u hear the complains the CV made? they complain alr den duno who told the smokers not to anyhow smoke, go to designated area to smoke. the thing was we ARE smokin at designated area. haha...

sidetrack a bit: after one of the rehearsals, me n kakis were smoking outside the stadium. then from far, we saw a 1 star gen in no.5 walking in a group toward entrance. as they come closer, one of us exclaimed 'sunyanzi is beside the general !!!'
haha, then the whole group of smokers there turn n look at her. walao, she dam ugly sia, light makeup can see left face morpeng, big head, small body, sommore wearing black spandex top(those type ballet dancers wear). -

tt NDP i was talking abt was in 2004, so most probably none of u who replied r there la.. but at least pls find a corner to smoke la if u guys r in ceremonial uniform...n i feel it's more unsightly if an officer or spec smoke with their sword or sash on them
