I know it's all not true now.
But at that point of time, leaving christianity meant that my church friends would all stay away from me. And they did.
So i lost alot when i left the religion.
But then I realise that if they left me because of religion, then they were not truly my friends. :
yes true friends accept you as who and what you are, even if you are a gay, lesbian, bankrupt etc. you be glad that you have seen the light early rather than later. luckily I was never into god religion from young, thank goodness.

Hey rooney
Yes it's true. People who love you will love you for who you are. Most importantly, to be happy, you have to accept yourself first. I f you don't accept yourself, who will?
i for one is an ardent supporter of ban against public evangelism, whichever religion they come from
They should be classified as public nuisance along with gangfights
Standing outside schools preying on school kids is one of the most disgusting behaviour ever

You are wrong
Evangelism does not give consideration to the religious beliefs (or lack of it) of others, hence evangelism itself is non-tolerance
This also violates the Constitution of the Republic of Singapore

You are that is truly mistaken. Please find out what the Constitution really says.
Alternatively, try slipping fliers into someone's letterbox.
Originally posted by BroInChrist:How am I mistaken concerning the Constitution which allows people to propagate their religion freely? As to slipping fliers, that’s not illegal at all.
Which part of the Constitution specifically allows people to freely propagate their religion?
Please do read up on the slipping fliers case. Please dont be lazy or wilfully ignorant
Amituofo, so far none of them dare come Yawnzzzzzzzz!

Yes evangelizing should be criminalised if it offends other religions or if it preys on young children to give their numbers for "recruitment".

Aggressive recruitment tactics should be illegal....

laurence,
Article 15 of the Constitution of the Republic of Singapore guarantees freedom of religion in Singapore. Specifically, Article 15(1) states: "Every person has the right to profess and practise his religion and to propagate it."
There you go, hope you weren't wilfully ignorant or lazy to find out the above for yourself.
As for the fliers case, I know about it. Do you know what the crime was for, the fact about slipping fliers or the fact they they were putting in objectionable content?

Tcmc,
So evangelism that does not offend other religion or "prey" (note the loaded word being used) on young children OK right? But how you define what offends other religion or what is "preying" on young children?

Demon Bane,
Why should aggressive recruitment tactics be illegal? What is defined as aggressive?

Like u said, people have a choice to respect other's beliefs even though they dun agree...aggressive tactics are like they slam all other religions as "evil"....and pull people on the streets to listen to their version of the Truth etc... I met one gal who followed me for 25 mins talking about God and Jesus, even when I told her nicely that I'm not interested....now that's aggressive...to me.
I disagree with a law which bans evangelizing in public.
It is too draconian and totalitarian.
Why make a law like that..?
Do you think there should be a law which ban people from approaching and selling insurance to you..?
Do you think there should be a law banning surveys..?
Do you think there should be a law banning people selling ice cream..?
Why should there be a law banning evangelizing..?
If you think about it, it is too stupid. It's as if people are not adults but some kind of soft and immature people who need protection because they cannot think for themselves and cannot make decisions for themselves.
If there is any forcing, any excessive or agressive approach, just decline and walk away. What is the problem ? It is the same like those insurace salesmen, you can decline and walk away right ?
If there is any insult, and physical force, violence, then you can report it and just report it under the existing law. Why need extra law..?
Will it cause offence ? I dont think so ?
Lets say someone who is of another faith. Lets say he is approached on the street. He can listen and then say "thank you I am not interested" , or say "thank you but actually I am a member of this other religion"
So what is the problem.
No need for draconian law.

Nope, you were so lazy and distracting
A simple search in Google would come up with this
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Article_15_of_the_Constitution_of_Singapore
"Singapore courts have not yet interpreted the word propagate in Article 15(1) of the Constitution.
Article 25(1) of the Indian Constitution, which is in the same terms as in Article 15(1) of the Singapore Constitution, guarantees to individuals the right to freely "profess, practise and propagate" their religions. The term propagate was considered by the Supreme Court of India in Stanislaus v. State of Madhya Pradesh (1977...."
Not copying the rest of the paragraph for the benefit of someone's laziness
Hence, banning evangelism/proselytism is nothing unconstitutional. Offending other religion is unlawful going by past/current cases.
if the courts need to sit down to define it, or if its to be struck off the Constitution for being 'unconstituitional', so be it.
So, dont talk big throwing up big words such as 'constitutional' and make yourself look silly.

Its like saying 'f you!' in a nice way
lol
Let's just put yourselves into my shoes for a moment....if somebody were to come to u preaching about buddhism and buddha ....and after you'd said that you were not interested, they kept pestering you and continued talking and followed you for 25 mins...what would you tot of them and their beliefs ?
I'm not saying to have new laws to ban this or that...but I think religion is a personal choice...and to those that are too aggressive in preaching, should tone down a bit dun you think ? They should exercise self-restraint....and not be over zealous....

Demon,
I am sure BroInChrist would dislike it if someone preaches aggressively to him about islam or buddhism. But then it would be ok for HIM and his fellow christians to keep preaching about their religion to others.
Talk about "doing unto others what you want others to do unto you"
Lol.

I dun mind discussing about religions...but I find it impossible to have a friendly discussion with some that are over zealous and just refuse to listen to other people's point of views....
Singapore is a multi racial and religious country. if you allow people like Rony Tan to proselytize in public, this will be a timebomb waiting to be exploded somewhere, sometime. even to free thinkers, this will be a tad too much, as the message is too insulting and unrefined not to mention it is an insult to their intelligence as well.
Evangelism is like the song 我的å—å…¸é‡Œæ²¡æœ‰æ”¾å¼ƒå› ä¸ºå·²é”å®šä½ .
