Really curious abt those Jehovah witnesses in sg.. Anyone heard any stories of bullying or persecution against them in sg.. ?
I have 1 friends in NS that serve 3 years of NS in jail and that's quite sad to know.. Will they face problems in finding jobs as well? One of my friend is a good student in poly but he said he cannot seem to get civil jobs.. Dunno if there is some kind of bias against them?
I asked if he got kena caught by ISD before but he said he has to be careful when his family meet for religious studies.. because they cannot meet in public places and will be caught if they do.. Also they cannot show their version of the bible to anyone or can be jailed/fine... He was kind of tearing when he talked abt it.. Sigh
Anyone got any other stories to share about jehovah's witnesses?
there were no witnesses when Jehovah created the world.................in fact, no one has even seen him...........
It's sort of "illegal" to be a Jehovah's Witnesses in Sg and some other countries due to their conscientious objection to military service and refusal to salute national flags...
And I believe they are also shunned by their fellow Christians. Are you a member of Jehovah's Witnesses?
I encountered them. They went round selling colourful books. I tactfully turned them down. The lady was well mannered. I have friend who allowed the Jehovah Witness follower to go to her house to have bible study with her.
So if they are "illegal", will the police catch them?

Won't, unless they create trouble. Live and let live since they are nice people.

In 2008–2009, the Singapore government declined to make data available to the public concerning arrests of Jehovah's Witnesses. is this the reason why?

which govt dept to go to ask for data?
I am not sure are there still existence of Jehovah Witness in Singapore.
The govt has their reason to oppose them if they exist to preach against going to army.

Maybe there is no data, no arrest at all.

The government practice of throwing them into DB for not serving NS is considered persecution.
From Rin_senko's link:
In February 1995, Singapore police raided private homes where group members were holding prayer meetings, in an operation codenamed "Operation Hope". Officers seized bibles, religious literature, documents and computers, and eventually brought charges against 69 Jehovah's Witnesses, many of whom went to jail.
They were a banned Christian group. Even mainstream Christian churches do not accept them.

They view them as a cult.
I don't agree on the against going army part of the belief.
they are a cult...
have you read about the many cases of children dying because their parents refuse to let the child have a life-saving blood transfusion or treatment...
also.. they will not swear allegience to country or anything like that... using that, they reject conscription and their responsibilities as a citizen of any country...
Don't know much about them, but besides cannot touch guns, I think they cannot celebrate birthdays, hold funerals, cannot this cannot that. If the entire community is like that, that community cannot survive. They need to depend on non-believers for their survival.
