YOu know what, the excuse and reason is always " It is his will" and "It is not his will" hoping by giving such statements will shut the mouths of people asking.

because karma cannot be used to explain for everything and anything. karma cannot be just explained using a,b,c,d etc. example, if you do a, you will get b, no. karma work on your intention and you reap the effects, both good and bad. sleeping, sitting watching tv has no karma, cause the action is neither good nor bad isnt it. also when you accidentally killed an ant or snail, you do not incur karma because the action is not intentional. do you not have the intention to kill the ant/snail, as compared to the intention of wanting to kill the ant/snail. also karma does not work instantly in some instances. it may effect in some lifetimes or many lifetimes later.

Which begs the question, did no bad things happen to the person in his first life? If they did, then what caused it if not karma?

its very complex. even buddha used karma generally. it cannot be said that if you do this and that, you will have this or that effect. but karma is the law of nature. it is impersonal and not administered by a god or even the buddha.

Then whats the point of living life now? Since so much seems "predetermined"

no its not pre determined no fatalistic. nvm dun discuss here. this is not buddhism forum. even buddhists are confused on karma and begun using karma to explain, some of which are erroneous.
as for existence, its not a question of whether it is worth living or not, because you exists due to ignorance and craving, which are the causes of your continued existences.
