these festivals keep the forumers here busy replying and defending their religion. next time just cut and paste your replies from last year. don't need to waste time typing ha ha ha......
Why Not? If you are a Chinese. The Jews celebrated Passover - which is a Jewish festival.

christianity is a religion of joy and love...
and really.. so, i cannot celebrate the new year of the solar calendar? i cannot celebrate my birthday? i cannot celebrate at all?
give it a rest already...
remember the religion for what it is, which is to worship and love God, be good to your fellow men, no matter what religion... which is the first two commandments..
that is the crux of Christianity isn't it?
christmas is a pagan dates....
Tradition and religion ain't the same bro... It's a tradition to celebrate, give ang pow, pai nian, exchange orange, wear red red, etc etc... not a religion thing...
We repect the tradition. We respect our elder's beliefs also...
Doesn't mean we believe wear red red will really give luck... We merely respect the tradition ^^

He mean
Christian can celebrate.
If you give ang pow(he type mo for some reason), means that you are already celebrating.
And if you don't, it means you are not celebrating.
Anyway, make no sense also LOL
Got ang pao don't take, got bak kwa don't eat, where is the joy of life?
Our church even gives us blessed oranges! Nice.
Stupid qn always lead to funny ans.
Let's celebrate CNY!!!
3 more weeks to go!!!
Well depends on what you celebrate.
Did you know that Christmas was repurposed from a pagan holiday as well? In fact in Puritant England, they attempted to ban Christmas, with the only valid Christian "celebration" being Good Friday.
Personally I believe such moves, while well-intentioned, miss the mark. Your faith should be something that transforms the celebration, not something you need to hide and wall off from the rest of the world. No surprise that Christianity has been a religion that repurposed a lot of worldy things, it is I think, the nature of it.

The only vaild celebrations by people who claim to believe in G_d are those that G_d has ordained in the bible. The others are man made traditions which are like you say repurposed by christianity. This repurposing still does not make it right. Even if you have faith, celebrating a festival which is considered by G_d to be unacceptable in His sight still does not make it right. In the end you have to make the judgement call as to who you serve.

As long as tradition does not upsurp the authority of scripture why not? At the end of the day ones faith is not practiced in a vacumn, but also in context of their cultural and scological background. Spending Chinese New Year with practice of Christian values is quite different from spending Chinese New Year with taoist rituals. Christmas is certainly not celebrated for the Roman Sun God.
At the end of the day, each and every single day, every festival, every thing will be done for Him.
Aiyo....you guys gonna celebrate cny also difficult.
shld segregate these ppl and put them in some ulu villages
Yeah, guys, festive mood liao, cny tong tong cheng, tong tong cheng.....
There is no stupid questions. Only stupid people.
next period will be Qing Ming Festival
guess the next hot topic?

Actually if you are talking about being a believer in Yahweh, you do things His way. It is so presumptious for man to dictate to G_d how we keep our walk with Him. He has given us His guidelines as to how He wants us to live and it is for us to follow Him if we are to become more like Him.
christmas is still a pagan festival no matter how the church tries to dress it up.
celebrate His ordained festivals not man made traditions. this was what Yeshua was against.
Yahweh already has said how He wants things to be done, how arrogant can you be to say that you celebrate things that are not what He wants and you do it for Him and in His name.
On one hand you do not do what He wants, and on the other you do what you want to do and force Him to accept your ways as His how ludicrous.
chinese new year is for chinese. When u became christian u r no longer chinese meh
