See the similarity here? Christians believe what they believe, you believe what you believe. This is not about right or wrong. This is just about different beliefs!
Well I would like for people to consider their beliefs with logic and reasoning as a main factor, and for others to be open to both sides of the argument. With religions institutions seeking to indoctrinate from young most of their believers, it seems fair to allow everyone to see both sides instead, and of course it boils down to personal choice

I mean its late and I would hate to go into why I still believe in Jesus haha cos my life story is boring and would bore everyone but in short, I was never a JESUS person, my mahjong kaki, my band mates, my close friends mocked my decision to believe in Jesus. To them, a person like me becoming a christian, especially on my own initiative, was the biggest joke to them. Things happen down the road of 16 years which convince me that my belief is right. All of us have our own convictions and no one can challenge that. You have seen people who seem to hold on to certain things so strongly, that sometimes you want to tell them..STOP IT! But you know they cant, because they are strongly convicted about certain issues and they just feel the need to do something about it. I was like that 16 years ago.

And because I have talked to so many people, I also came to understand the meaning of religious tolerance, to agree to disagree. I am very happy to say that I can a discussion with most muslim friends or buddhist friends or taoist friends or homosexual friends on my beliefs and they still count me as their good friends. I do not believe in being pushy. I state my beliefs and thats it, i will never say you SHOULD or SHOULD NOT. No one can make that decision for you.
yes that should be the way, but not all christians are as tolerant and patient as you are. But I do not blame them, cos they are trapped in their own religious paradigm, when they go telling others the god you are worshipping are satanic, or the idol you pray to are made of wood or gold.

Fair enough! I would like to say that believing in Jesus is nothing LOGICAL! If it was logical, we do not have to call it faith! But alot of times, just as zealous christians tried to use their so called bible knowledge and tried to argue the way through with people using logic and science, the opposite happens too. I think both parties need to really understand what it mean to agree to disagree. I leave those who must argue until one party surrenders alone and I leave those to apologetics and those scholars who thrive on such intellectual discussions. To me, the principle remains, you state your beliefs, I state mine, I respect yours, you respect mine. the moment respect is not there, end of discussion, thats my stand.

I too do not focus too much on the big bang theory, i recognise that science may have further to go. However, whether the theory is true or not, it remains one of the many questions man cannot answer, to attribute it to a god seems very hasty a judgement to make. Creation may provide a plausible explanation, but not a likely one. I can see and recognise the perspective of a deist, but not a god depicted by christianity in light of other previously mentioned factors in other threads. Just my two cents worth

to each his/her own, but I strongly urge you to keep your mind open as possible. there are still a lot of things in this world we still do not understand, even for science. 100 years from now, science would even reveal more, but alas we will not be around by then.

And thats where the discussion will be. You have stated your beliefs and I have stated mine and I fully understand what you are trying to say. All I can say, is that believing in Jesus is not the most logical thing in this whole world and yes, putting our hopes in a person whom there are no physical evidences and in a world where so many things remain unanswered and a mystery may be a risk but a risk I have considered and was willing to take and thats where I am too today.

I am, and I hope people around me see that I am. My strong belief in Jesus does not mean I am not open to listen to theories or reasonings or beliefs contrary to mine. For now, I can only say, I have not heard anything that convince me otherwise. But that doesnt make me closed to listening and understanding other stands and beliefs.

This is partly the reason for my contention with the abrahamic religions, when some believers claim that they are 100% right. Such religious beliefs should cease to be taught in schools, when the teachers themselves know to a large extent that they might be wrong, but due to their beliefs, refuse to address the doubt

hahah best suggestion! what song playing leh...
gasband, try to read and know the other major and minor religions in this world, not in depth though, to aid your understanding of them. it helps to avoid misunderstanding and stereotype. alot of so called buddhist said cannot eat beef, but this is erroneous. the avoiding of eating beef is not a religious one. In India in the ancient past, cows toiled hard in the fields and farms, so out of respect for the poor animal, the people avoid eating beef.

I understand what you are trying to say. When what you try to push what you believe into someone's else throat, it becomes propaganda and no one likes that. Instead of saying that what I believe is 100% right , I simply say, I have 100% belief in what I believe in. Big difference in those 2 mentalities.

thanks for the suggestion and i will. religions and beliefs always hold an interesting place in my heart. Cultures and their behaviours and beliefs are always intriguing to me.

great. I hope you walk the talk and not be a religious zealot and fanatic. have you read my postings on how religion came about, due to ignorance and fear of the unknown?

Within this thread itself? I agree, though we cannot say that everyone's beliefs stem from those reasons, I agree that in the past and even till now, alot of such believers stem from the fear of the unknown and to buy 'insurance' for themselves. Religion was even used as a political tool and we all know the history of the Catholic church, or the Muslim and Christian crusades...

yes the history of christianity and Islam were filled with bloodshed and all for various reasons, like the ones you mentioned. whats the use of having a religion, when the followers cant even walk the talk. to walk the talk, please prove it with your actions, not some empty talk. walking the talk began with oneself to begin with.

Yes, but as I also state, not everyone is like that. I do not think there are going to be alot of this kind of mass crusades going on now. Terrorism is different, they are not real practioners of the religion. I think nowadays people can sit down and talk about differences in beliefs more peacefully. There are still people like me, who believes simply because I believe.
