  yesterday's newspaper LIFE! reported that  2 local film director's friend's wife was possessed and she spoke in tongue. just curious, i thought only gifted by god has the ability to speak in tongue, how come possessed by evil spirit also able to speak in tongue?

  Speaking in tongues can possibly be viewed from a psychological perspective. Perhaps the person has heard before, even once only, about the words spoken. Realised in the subconcious, it appears that the person is speaking in tongues. Such a system may also be used to show the improbabilty of rebirth when someone claims to know a place they have never been before

  Not trying to be disrespectful or anything.

   

  But I am always curious as to why some people think God "needs" your 10% of income.

   

  Does He have bills to pay? A mortgage to pay off? A car loan for the Lexus?

   

  People need money.  God doesn't.

  But the church pastors need to pay for their cars and condos you know. And to fund singing careers.

  Church needs money to pay utiltiy bill, daily expenses, salary of pastors and staff, things used for worship (bread and wine for Holy Communion), musical instrument, maintence of the church building.    These are basic necessities that church needs to take care of.   However, for the mega churches they are collecting more than 10%.   Don't know why they need so much money for.

  I also agree with you in terms of giving token sums to ensure the day to day operations of the church etc. With a membership of a few thousands, surely $10-$20 contribution every weekend per person will suffice. 10% of your monthly salary of $2,000 is $200. More if you earn more. What happens to the excess funds once operational costs have been covered? 

   

  Again I stress, God doesn't need money. People do.

  Well, they need to set aside some $$ for contingency fund, love offering to speakers who are invited to speak in the church and so on.

  The 10% tithing is what is stated in the bible in the book of Malachi (christian, correct me if the spelling is wrong).   Personally, to me 10% is a lot.   In the past, when I was a christian I gave 10% for  a couple of times and thereafter did not find that I could afford this much to give.

  pity your pastor lah...............he might be thinking of upgrading to landed property and Ferrari mah............poor thing.............
