Weee More research to be done =) Btw, if I don't like it, I will leave eventually but I am currently having an interest in the Holy Bible and that church
If you have an interest in the bible, go and study it carefully. And post any question you may have. I will not interfere with your current interest now.
Also check out the history/origin of the religion too to further your thoughts. Check out the book "A history of the world's religions / David S. Noss, John B. Noss." in the national library.
Regarding the speak in tongue, it is worthy to think deeply why certain sect of that religion behave as such? Is it dictated by their spiritual leader ? Man made ? Why don't they do it publicly ? Why don't they just pray silently to appear saner ? So many questions to ask.
Well to answer the question of speaking in tounges is simply opening a communication channel with you and the Lord himself. And while doing so, this language is a language that only you and the Lord can understand. Off course, this is not something that we have in us, it is a gift given by the Lord. Do not attempt it unless you are allowed to do so for what you deem as "tounges" might be the words of the devil.
Reading Acts 2:1-12 would help you understand this gift that God have given you more.

It seems like you have never entered a Catholic church before, because obviously you missed out on the large crucifix with Jesus in front of everyone!
my friend who is a christian told me that christians believe catholics are non believers and will also be sent to hell. is this true?
i have heard christians spoken in tongue, i wonder how they do it, it is very fast, i'm not comfortable with it, sounds eerie to me, as if they are being possessed. i heard some who do not know how to speak in tongue but pretend to be because they want others to know that they are also gifted.

Why are you posting the link if you didn't know?

Speaking in tongues aroused skeptics' interest to study it in lab by MRI scanning willing participants.
Anything interesting in buddhism you like to share which might arouse the interest of skeptics to experiment in a lab??

Can all give their view on it, best if it based on the Bible. If want to debate on the topic, please don't ask I just want to have more ideas on this practise. Espically wheter it is according to the word of the Gospel, and other churchs (regardless of it place, flamablitiy and status) do it too?
Both speaking in tongue and praying in tongue are biblical. Sorry, I ex christian and forgot where are verses in bible to support. You can get those christians to help.
We have a couple of sgforum forumers attending City Harvest.
Speak in tongue - God presenting message to the people. Need interpretation.
Pray in tongue - Allowing holy spirit to interceed prayers for you to God. No need interpretation.

Please don't drag buddhism into this thread. If you wanna talk about it, go Buddhism Wisdom Bliss forum. The people there are very kind and understanding.

Lets put it tis way. A person can fake speaking in tongue. Anybody can fake it. If u put in effort, nobody can tell it is true or not. And nobody can understand it.If u do not speak, people around u think u r not blessed enough, not have enough faith, do not have a strong belief.
U know the emperor new clothes ? A little psychology conditioning can make everybody thinks the emperor wears beautiful clothes even though he is butt naked
Speaking in tongues is not uniquely Christian, it can be found in Paganism, Shamanism, and other mediumistic religious practices.
It has also been observed in the Voodoo religion of Haiti, as well as in the Hindu Gurus and Fakirs of India.
Personally, if it's a Mega Church and people are led to speak in tongues by the pastor or the "leader" of the church I would think it's fake simply because Mega Churches seems suspicious...
Today's churches I find seems to be focused on bringing in more people (and maybe profit) rather than spreading their religion...incorporating elements that were considered "satanic" by other brothers in faith into their forms of Christianity,
Well, religion is a complicated thing, why do you think there are 20,000 denominations of protestantism itself? What one denomination does can be heretical to another...
No easy answers there.

Megachurches are money trees. Don't join City Harvest church, it is horrible and they will suck your insides out into their pockets.

WIth regards to believing, understand the bible in the context of the time it was written and to whom it was written and then understand what it is saying. If you do not, then you won't get far... it just becomes confusing. Also start to understand the bible by reading from the first page to the last page. If you start in the middle like most christian churches tell you to do, then you will not get the story. Nobody picks up a storybook and reads from the middle. You don't have context that way.

Most people who scoff at the bible never even read it before. They just take out Genesis 1:1 and flame it

And yet in that very first chapter Yahweh lays out the entire plan of salvation... : )

If God were faked he would be some God who acts like a stupid kid who didn't get his candy and anyhow throw tantrums.

If you take Christianity as truth, you most likely believe that all other gods portrayed in other religions are false. As not all of them follow your statement above as acting "like a stupid kid", that statement cannot prove anything

This is true. There is a CHC churchmember complained the church asked for money often. Used worship time to advertise the pastor's wife new CD and asked them to buy.

Mostly for people that lack but crave for a strong sense of solidarity, commonly refered to as the herd mentality
