to use god as a supreme divine being to explain everything and anything are just too simplistic a view and superstitious. besides the explanations given created a lot of never ending questions poser, such as, if SATAN is the root of all evils, why dun god just end SATAN once and for all for the good of the world. the believers will just explain why god does not want to end SATAN and then the question will immediately shoot back as to what are god motivation and intentions, since they mentioned SATAN is the root of all evils. these are called paradoxes, thats why there can never be a satisfactory reply to all parties concerned, believers explaining and non believers asking back. that is why this supreme divine being concept cannot be the be-all and end-all explanations to all our problems and ills of society.
although science has its limits, but it certainly beats superstitiousness. our ancestors were not able to know that thunders and rain are not acts of god, but natural phenomenon of evaporisation and condensation of water. similarly we now know that earthquakes are the movement of tectonic plates moving in opposite directions, unlike our ancestors, who were primitive and can only surmised that a great divine being was behind it.

no its not because you have no explanations to the millions of questions thrown to you. all you can offer is that god is the creator of all and all will be judged, thats all.
I have a christian army mate, when I throw him so many questions, he told me that god will tell me when I meet me ie die.

can anyone explain how come god in the first testament behaved like a lout and dictator and in the second testament, why god suddenly transformed itself from being vengeful and spiteful to a kinder and merciful god?
god was enlightened in the second testament and turned over a new leaf for good? again paradox here.

but rather
no one holds the truth about god
and you must remember, you can discuss god within context of science but to creationists its a matter of dogma

the ancient clergymen realized that if the god is so spiteful, it was harder to attract new believer. Thus they started the process of writing a good god.Hope to hear any views from christian or jew.

in the OT the writers wrote abt the coming of a messiah...in the NT, the writers(diff ones from the OT) wrote that the messiah came in the form of jesus...so y did God seem to change from being a judgmental and harsh God in the OT to one who is loving and merciful in the NT? the answer is because of jesus...
non-christians may not like/accept this answer but it because of jesus death on the cross on our behalf that covered our sins...its like jesus is the one who intercedes on behalf of all of mankind...because God loves His Son so much, He agrees to be merciful to the sinful ppl on behalf of His Son...
so if u ask me, y was there a change in God's character...technically, yes...however, the christian perspective is that God had always been a harsh judge and a loving Father. its juz tat He revealed diff parts of His nature in the OT and NT. its like our parents scold/cane us when we are wrong but they also have the loving side of them...plus, i am sure there were times they showed mercy when we deserved punishment...
