agreed. I think its just a convenient way out because SPDCP laid the groundwork
I think many of us have gone through too much of life to have faith in God to turn all things for our good.
I do not know the context of the pastor, who said it and why, but if i were to make a guess, it was aimed at christians telling people they would not make it cos they have not followed the "right methods".. By placing themselves higher than the others who have failed in some areas, they are doing no service to the Kingdom.
God says " I will be their God, and they shall be My people!"
If you cannot rely on God to make ALL things good, then He is God for what?
Dont even use the phrase "God helps those who helps themselves" since Isaiah 25:4 declares, "For You have been a defense for the helpless, a defense for the needy in his distress, a refuge from the storm, a shade from the heat..."
God helps those who cannot help themselves... a struggling man will cause both rescuer and victim to drown... Let go, and Let God...

i say god send his only son to die for him, he say its a fairy tale
so being in the "fairytale"
my life is so much better with Jesus..
get it? =)
Haha.. he was saying that IF Christianity is a fairy tale, he would rather be living in a fairy tale than outside.. But since its not a fairy tale, deal with it!
Of course, i might appear to be putting words into his mouth, but all this is simply my interpretation of the situation... If ever I am wrong, do correct me.. If it looks like i'm helping him get out of a sticky situation, then so be it.. i dont mind really..
*Edit*
LOL!! i edited my last post after seeing alot of responses then thought it was a bit late.. scared confuse ppl... now it becomes relevant.. nvm i change it back.. HAHA!
Anyway, looks like its clear now that i didnt just "create" a way out .. haha... very Qara(קר ) timing..

mm wrong answer. You're being sarcastic about the 'fairy tale' part, which is exactly what i expected. Your argument against the 'fairytale' label is that your 'life is so much better'. This justification for christianity with "life is so much better" is exactly what im pointing out. Masses taken in by the whole "life is good" notion.
SPDCP just for your note, the sarcasm was irrelevant. =)
And Fantagf, good call.

I myself first accepted Christ cos only He could make my life better... In fact, that is the Gospel!!
"Come all who are weary and heavy laden, and I will give you rest." - Matthew 11:28
Is that a "life is good" notion? Jesus seems to be in favor of it.. Lets put aside fairy tale for now, since we have determined that christianity is NOT a fairy tale, but a relationship with God...
I wouldnt use the word "taken in", since you normally use that word for something that doesnt come out with results to show.. You can be taken in with Ponzi schemes, MLMs, or some crafty deals, but not the Word of Christ..
Now, I dont follow Christ cos i feel good, but because it WORKS... Prayer works! Tithing Works! Fellowship Works! Even debating on a forum ... it Works!!
We dont press the "on" switch on a computer to feel good, but because it works.. feeling good is just a side effect or a "fruit", a end result, not a motivation...

rock bottom followed by the people's elbow will be good..some people are "luckier" than others in the sense that they need not endure harship as much as others..but i guess let the vicious cycle end with us..let others prosper yet they can understand the joy of being God's servant..

the undeserved loving kindness of God flows freely into all..for those who help themselves would actually mean those who understand that love and recipocrate back to God..

it is only Jehovah/Yahweh through the hands of Jesus/Yeshua that can make people good..for it is written... only Jehovah/Yahweh is good.
prayers do work..even when people think it doesnt..it actually is still working..just that people do not realize it yet.
understanding that love means being bold and coming to His throne and receving from Him... What does a God who has everything need? My answer is someone to share it with... it can get lonely at the top...
Too many of us are being Marthas and not enough Marys.. What did Jesus say? Mary has chosen the good part, which shall not be taken from her. We serve God by making it easier for others to receive from Him. Thats the whole point of serving..
So in a way, yes i agree with you.. I would put it this way : Help yourself to God's grace and Goodness! If you can have the faith to help yourself to His resources, you truly understand His love and by doing so you make Him feel like God and this pleases Him greatly!
This surely is a revelation! haha..
*add on* hmm.. can remind me which ones? I got a few threads running haha.. SGforums is so fun!! Lots of smart ppl here to bounce ideas off... except for the occasional troll...
