around 2:12 am now... I am reading some articles... I normally don't sleep till late...Originally posted by vince69:ok... almost want to say, now... that place open tills quite late, was there with my friends once, till almost midnight..
by the way.... is it 2+am at where you are?
look like its going to be a long for me tonight tooOriginally posted by breytonhartge:around 2:12 am now... I am reading some articles... I normally don't sleep till late...
Brey, Yom Kippur is just 10 months away. Remember what is to be done for the day? Ask for forgiveness from others before God can forgive you. So don't say xie4 qi4 hua4. Be more magnanimous.Originally posted by breytonhartge:CE from now on, I won't even bother with you anymore... its not worth the time. You are just a troll.... the pages in EH speak for themselves, even more so since you became a mod... you did exactly what you said I should not do. We wonder who is inconsistent.
I commented on what I thought, since you put a public post up. But I do realise that it is not my place to tell you how you should raise your kids. Hence the comment. It is between you and Yahweh. Like I have said before, you are too sensitive.Actually when I read that part of your quote, I thought it sounded condescending.
Personally I see nothing wrong with watching problematic shows like Golden Compass if the intention is to guide your kids.
Macross and protoculture have nothing to do whatsoever with going against Yahweh. The golden compass is exactly that. If you cannot see the difference, then, your problem.
There is morning prayer at the synagogue for shabbat right?Originally posted by breytonhartge:around 2:12 am now... I am reading some articles... I normally don't sleep till late...
Yup, perhaps at the end of the day, money is the deciding factor.Originally posted by vince69:back to the topic... again, let me say this again, its your money, you can decide on where to spend them...
For me, I don't like the story line, and I don't think I want my daughter to watch this either, so me and family not watching this show.
I hope Brey understands why there is this impression I am trying to single him out, as if it is totally his fault and the other party is blameless.Originally posted by Icemoon:Brey, Yom Kippur is just 10 months away. ok!Originally posted by Icemoon:I also never.
Maybe if Brey comes back to Singapore, we can go to his house for a sumptuous Jewish meal. I remember he said his wife or relative opens a Jewish restaurant.
He hinted no more liao.Originally posted by dumbdumb!:ok!
Give you one more word before I go to bed... Age appropreiate... meaning not everything also can go all the time, when young->less freedom, when older->more freedomOriginally posted by Icemoon:Yup, perhaps at the end of the day, money is the deciding factor.
Also there is such thing as opportunity cost. The 2 hours could be better spent elsewhere.
I have been thinking, how long can parents "censor" problematic books or movies from their kids? Now with globalization and internet, you really can't hide from "bad" influence forever.
For 16 years, you raise your kids to be good Christians. When the time comes for them to be independent, alas, they have not been equipped with the critieria thinking skill needed to face the secular world.
Actually, we all should remember and learn the importance of maintaining a harmonious relationship with our neighbours, especially so with our brethens.Originally posted by Icemoon:I hope Brey understands why there is this impression I am trying to single him out, as if it is totally his fault and the other party is blameless.
No!
Because I believe, of all people, Brey should understand the significance of Yom Kippur and the importance of maintaining a harmonious relationship with our neighbours.
May the Ruach convict him.
Unker, you are also getting to the point of being obnoxious. Note that kosher food is only prepared by Jews not Muslims.Originally posted by Chin Eng:note the keyword: guide!
a guide is to point out, to direct, to teach.....
i can bring my boys to watch any show i want and be THAT GUIDE. be that moral compass,
you obviously have no idea as to what being a guide means.
brey - raise a child and tell me differently..... otherwise shut your trap up, especially when it comes to being a father!
yup, brey, there's no real local food accept for the kosher ones.... so there goes the char kway teow (oops i need to recommend the muslim foodcourt at Woodlands Shopping Mall - same level as the cinema) got halal (oops, i mean kosher) char kway teow.
yes i am. my point being - how much local food is really kosher? so why talk about local food when it is not kosher? the closest thing is halal.... that's about it.Originally posted by Herzog_Zwei:Unker, you are also getting to the point of being obnoxious. actually that was the MAIN problem. you hit the nail on the head.Originally posted by Icemoon:Actually when I read that part of your quote, I thought it sounded condescending.
exactly..... how much of society can one shun anyway? do we take our kids away from the Triumph section of the mall because there are bras and breasts? my style is to expose as much as it is legally acceptable and talk them out of the issues.Originally posted by Icemoon:Personally I see nothing wrong with watching problematic shows like Golden Compass if the intention is to guide your kids.
Surely it is better than those who have shunned the movie, then condemn the movie non-stop. When people ask whether they have seen the movie, then they go opps! Wa leow, never see the movie but still talk so much?
Thank You.... as i'd said earlier, we cannot keep media away. I have friend who keeps her children away from TV etc, but yet the child mouths Madonna music.Originally posted by Icemoon:Regarding parenting,
Unker Eng may seems like a "anything also can" parent. Harry Potter is ok, Golden Compass is ok, Narnia is ok, Christmas is ok etc.
But I have observed, he can temper discipline with freedom very well. The same parent who allows Harry Potter also emphasize the solemnity of worship. When kids run around during service, he is displeased and thought the parents should be doing something.
I also believe he has a limit. Things like oujia board should be a no-no for his kids.
You are entitled to your opinion.... However, please substantiate your claims, otherwise, it's libel! Also, please get a few more witnesses to these claims.... isn't it written even the Torah that when you accuse someone of something, you need witnesses????Originally posted by breytonhartge:CE from now on, I won't even bother with you anymore... its not worth the time. I am not disagreeing your right to comment - I am just peeved that you had the audacity to state that "it is NOT YOUR PLACE..." but continue to do so.Originally posted by breytonhartge:I commented on what I thought, since you put a public post up. Oh, I changed.... I stop collecting some toys and started on others. Quite strange to say that concepts like protoculture has nothing to do with going against God.... God created planets with robots???? duhOriginally posted by breytonhartge:Macross and protoculture have nothing to do whatsoever with going against Yahweh. The golden compass is exactly that. If you cannot see the difference, then, your problem. Asking for links to Macross toys... nostalgia. I am sure you are guilty of it. But people change as they grow, since you do not change much I assume you do not grow ... life is a continual growing process and one changes paradigms as one learns new things... if Yahweh convicts me, then I have to change... nothing inconsistent in that.
Like all other Christians, I worship Jesus.Originally posted by breytonhartge:Hmmm you are worshipping the God of Abraham, Issac and Jacob are you not?
So you go figure....
I have never claimed to know it all - you, again, judged me. Grabs Unker Chin Eng's arm and say, "watch this movie liao liew." Watch The Hitman is better.Originally posted by Chin Eng:this is probably the crux of my parenting style.
i am exposing my boys to the media to equip them with the ability to cope with the secular world.
i do not hide many things from them.
they even went through a "course" with me on all the different swear words that they will encounter. i told them: they can choose to use them or not - it's up to them. guess what, as far as i know, they have never used a swear word purely because they know it is rude and unnecessary.
during our holiday travels, we even go up in front of shops that sell pornograpy and i tell them what the business is, inside....
parenting, to me, is mentoring (note that I do not say I know it all). Mentoring someone to be able to walk on his own two feet, so that when the mentor is not around anymore, the individual can carry his own weight and doing what is right.
Seeing "National Treasure II" this afternoon..... i certainly hope that this movie will agree with my moral and spiritual upbringing
Halal is close but not close enough, so how?Originally posted by Chin Eng:yes i am. my point being - how much local food is really kosher? so why talk about local food when it is not kosher? the closest thing is halal.... that's about it.
I think Halal mercy slaughter is identical, or at least similar, to Kosher mercy slaughter.Originally posted by Herzog_Zwei:Halal is close but not close enough, so how?
