Well, there are many things in this world that are not agreeable to religions. In the broad sense, there are many things we cannot agree on.Originally posted by breytonhartge:so then the problem here is if you are to teach you child the ways of Yahweh, but you allow them to watch a movie supposedly contradictory to the christian faith, then what message are you trying to put through?
so let's assume what you say is correct, everything else CAN and WILL be defined by someone else to say that it's contrary to the ways of Yahweh....Originally posted by breytonhartge:so then the problem here is if you are to teach you child the ways of Yahweh, but you allow them to watch a movie supposedly contradictory to the christian faith, then what message are you trying to put through?

Therefore it is important to teach your children what you believe in. Even more so, we must live out these beliefs. It is our responsibility to teach them. We can only pray that they will follow our footsteps. We can only be their guide.
We cannot control everything that do, hear or watch, but we can be the person that they seek when they feel confused.
Of course, if we pay for the movie tickets / DVD, we choose to what we watch lah
Wrong the Tenakh and the Brit Chadashah says to teach your children in the ways of Yahweh, not what you believe in. We are to teach our children the ways of Yahweh when they are young so that when they grow up they will not depart from it.Originally posted by sillyme:Well, there are many things in this world that are not agreeable to religions. we are talking about belief systems, you have to define everything by what Yahweh says and its in His book. So its between you and Him... ultimately every father is accountable as the head of his own household. Lets hope you are doing the right thing. Its not my place to tell you how you should bring up your own kids. Its not whether you think you are doing a good job, its whether He thinks you are doing a good job. I am sure that He will let you know.Originally posted by Chin Eng:so let's assume what you say is correct, everything else CAN and WILL be defined by someone else to say that it's contrary to the ways of Yahweh....
... Transformers, X-men, Spider-man, Batman.... all inclusive.... so what's left here in Singapore this "paganistic" season is the 10 Commandments cartoon.
... let's go beyond movies.... how about my collection of "paganistic" toys... ?
Thanks for promoting it...Originally posted by alvinlam_07:Hello all,
There will be a new children's movie out in December called "The Golden Compass". The movie has been described as "atheism for kids" and is based on the first book of a trilogy entitled "His Dark Materials" that was written by Phillip Pullman. Pullman is a militant atheist and secular humanist who despises C. S. Lewis and the "Chronicles of Narnia". His motivation for writing this trilogy was specifically to counteract Lewis' symbolisms of Christ that are portrayed in the Narnia series.
Clearly, Pullman's main objective is to bash Christianity and promote atheism. Pullman left little doubt about his intentions when he said in a 2003 interview that "my books are about killing God." He has even stated that he wants to "kill God in the minds of children ". It has been said of Pullman that he is "the writer the atheists would be praying for, if atheists prayed."
While "The Golden Compass" movie itself may seem mild and innocent, the books are a much different story. In the trilogy, a young streetwise girl becomes enmeshed in an epic struggle to ultimately defeat the oppressive forces of a senile God. Another character, an ex-nun, describes Christianity as "a very powerful and convincing mistake." In the final book, characters representing Adam and Eve eventually kill God, who at times is called YAHWEH. Each book in the trilogy gets progressively worse regarding Pullman's hatred of Jesus Christ.
"The Golden Compass" is set to premier on December 7, during the Christmas season (and staring Nicole Kidman), and will probably be heavily advertised. Promoters hope that unsuspecting parents will take their children to see the movie, that they will enjoy the movie, and that the children will want the books for Christmas.
Please consider a boycott of the movie and the books. Also, pass this information along to everyone you know (including church leaders). This will help to educate parents, so that they will know the agenda of the movie.
God Bless
When I said "teach your children what you believe in", it was a generic statement. If you belief in the ways of the Lord, teach them that. If you have a different belief system, then teach them that. It was a general parenting statement.Originally posted by breytonhartge:Wrong the Tenakh and the Brit Chadashah says to teach your children in the ways of Yahweh, not what you believe in. How can a parent be a child's guide if the parent is sending out mixed signals.
If it's between me and Him, it is not necessary for you to go to great lengths with your discourse.Originally posted by breytonhartge:we are talking about belief systems, you have to define everything by what Yahweh says and its in His book. You never talk about your children. I think whatever I know can be summarised into two points:
1. You have a Jewish wife. (edit: who can cook delicious Jewish food)
2. You like BMWs.
