You must first love yourself

Recently I heard this phrase from my friend and also from radio (think is perfect ten):
You must first love yourself so that you can love others. And others will love you. (The last sentence I not too sure if got or not.)
Is this phrase align with biblical teaching? Just wondering. Any thoughts?

What does it mean?
It is easier said than done.
What does love yourself encompasses?
Thinking well of yourself, and not deriding yourself.
Good grooming, taking care of appearances.
Talking positively of others.
Enhancing yourself worth.
Enhancing your standing in the community.
Good conduct at all times.
Honesty, integrity, virtue.
Be a high achiever.
Cleanliness.
etc etc.
Its easy to tell someone with low selfesteem to "Love yourself"
How do you tell him to go about it? -

It depends what one means by "loving yourself".
If "loving yourself" is a self-centred kind of love, then it has negative consequences.
In the Christian context, it means knowing that you are made in the image of God; you are wonderfully created in Him. You are to be good stewards of your life and what you have been given. You are called to have a relationship with Him, and by that you are to called to love others. -

I'm still confused. I'm trying to understand what the original meaning of "You must first love yourself so that you can love others" and if it is the same as the biblical meaning of loves your neighbors (including your enemies) which is difficult at times. Just wondering if the "You must first love yourself so that you can love others" means you must first love yourself before others, before you can experience how to love others or is it dealing with self-esteem. Just some thoughts.

i love u.. <=== easy to say out but the meaning to it not 100% of warm bodies understand this term.
u r answerable to UR OWNSELF, so u only care abt urself more than others. but that's a thin line between love urself and SELFISH. Over LOVING urself is more or less call self center which does not have the meaning of love.
so to balance it off, u must understand the term of love what ur parents have given u as in 'life'. Then u are able to love pple ard u.
parents gave us the selfless love therefore they are able to love us. saying the word 'love' takes less than a sec but it take long to learn to love and be love.

In short, you must first love yourself - save yourself first - only then can you save others. -
