Don't look at me but I have heard of such incidents happening. What are the churches in Singapore doing to handle such incidents? I would suggest reporting such incidents to the Home Affairs Ministry and Registrar of Societies before executing a clean house mission.Originally posted by Chin Eng:SOME CHURCHES may turn to this verse to explain the "persecution" nonetheless, it would be irresponsible to misquote something to justify a situation that is inevidently created by the leadership.
that would be an excellent idea... under age cannot enter! Include also a warning sign at the doors of all religious establishments:Originally posted by vince69:and the pastor should employ bouncers to stand at the door... no consent form cannot enter...
that's the kind of 'better' people i'm talking about.Originally posted by laurence82:but its true
there are a lot of silly young adults or teenagers doing a lot of funny things
whether its joining MLM, bloody chasing celebrities from one mall to another, think joining church is hip and cool etc etc etc
i am proud to say these kind of people are not in my list of people i socialise with regularly

i mean, if you're directly affected by the church, like that doctor who wrote that letter, its really fine you know. i understand the pissed off part.
but most of you guys aren't even affected. are your siblings caught in a cultish church? no, you're just throwing stones because its so easy to just stand at the side-line and pick one rock and hurl it at the accused and pretend that it wasn't you who threw it.
zzz, the doctor being pissed was valid, it was his family who was affected. me getting pissed off at certain churches, is validated, because i was affected, my family was affected.
but some of you guys don't even know what's going on, and start picking sides.
i've had an uncle who abandoned his family when one of them was diagnosed with cancer to be a monk at some foreign country. do i condemn all buddhists as cowardly people who use their religion to escape their problems and responsibilities?
you're just some superficial ignorant fool who joined in the stone throwing because its very "re nao", what makes you any different from kids who joined churches because its hip and cool?

WARNING: Listening to the preaching might destroy your harmonious family life.
I started a thread before where I highlighted a preacher from New Zealand telling the gullible teens that they are prone to demon possession if their parents worship idols. That is like 90% of Asians!
I think what you suggested makes sense and the warning sign is appropriate.
guilty or not, it isn't really for people who never been to that church to see what really happened, to judge.Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:No need lah, the guilty people know who they are...
although i not christian/catholic, i see alot of these xmm/xdd hanging around, and it's like, you can obviously tell whether they're faithful anot.Originally posted by dumbdumb!:guilty or not, it isn't really for people who never been to that church to see what really happened, to judge.
you get my point right?
its like, to kill a mockingbird, where everyone blamed the african-american for raping and killing a girl, but its not him, and the case was much more complicated than that, but EVERYONE blamed him because its the popular choice. they didn't even bother listening to the facts of the case, but they were so ready to blame him, because of what some people said.
i've been to certain churches like that. i know the struggles of making those choices. i know the choices are very greyish, and not black and white. i find some of the things they try to put into the members' minds are questionable, but that's because i was there. were you?
it really disgust me to see people who aren't even christian, who didn't even attend that church, who didn't have to struggle with making the right choices, to open their mouth and talk as if they understand the situation and are able to make a righteous judgement. Pui!
and that's really their problem isn't it. its their lives, they account their actions to God. stop acting the samaritan and try to make it look like you're really concerned with the moral state of the youths in singapore.Originally posted by gigabyte14:although i not christian/catholic, i see alot of these xmm/xdd hanging around, and it's like, you can obviously tell whether they're faithful anot.
they seemed to talk to the girls ONLY.
i detest such people.
and i don't see much of the people of their age being the really devoted ones, it's rare.
i wonder, what will happen in the future?
I really have no idea what you are trying to say. Dr Lee Bee Wah brought up a very real problem. Are you trying to say that the problem does not exist? Are you saying that it was a fiction of her imagination?Originally posted by dumbdumb!:

my point is this:
the doctor was angry, because his family was falling apart from direct impact from the church.
i can be angry at the church, because my family nearly fell apart too because of the ex church i went to.
but what the fuck are you making so much noise for? is your family falling apart because of some church? are you even a christian?
if you don't understand what's really going on, stop adding fuel to the fire and fan the flames la. all the smoke is just making everyone more confused and they just jump the bandwagon to stone someone.
according to him, you cannot! Period!Originally posted by gigabyte14:i'm concerned about singapore's future, not the youths of singapore.
and i'm looking from a citizen's perspective, not on the religious side.
although it's religious now, it'll be the fate of singapore in the future.
and look at the first post.
you're making it as if it's only a problem for the christians/catholicsOriginally posted by AndrewPKYap:according to him, you cannot! Period!
you still don't get my point:Originally posted by AndrewPKYap:I really have no idea what you are trying to say. Dr Lee Bee Wah brought up a very real problem. Are you trying to say that the problem does not exist? Are you saying that it was a fiction of her imagination?
If we are living in a Christian country, there would not be this problem. Even if the parents are not practicing Christians, they would not stop their children from becoming one.
As it is, Christianity is trying to make itself "exclusive"; and that is very clear from one of the ten commandments, the first if I am not wrong.
Are you denying that there is a conflict and a problem? Are you saying that nobody can give their opinions on this matter unless they are directly involved? Why???!!!
it is a problem for the christians/catholics!Originally posted by gigabyte14:you're making it as if it's only a problem for the christians/catholics
the first post concerns schoolwork/academic purposes, and i'm trying to link it to the future of sg, read properly can you?Originally posted by dumbdumb!:you still don't get my point:
my point is this.
the doctor has the right to be pissed and making noise at the church, because her life was affected.
i have the right to be pissed and making noise at the church, because my family life was also affected
you're just making noise, because its "fun" (lack of a better word). you're not really enraged at the church, you're just picking bones. if you have a genuine reason to pick at the church, i wouldn't be angry. but you don't. your life go on as per normal regardless of the church action. so why are you making so much noise?
its like, you're just some bystander watching an old lady get robbed, and you go "ya lor, what an arse the robber is, evil bugger etc etc".
read the first post, dammitOriginally posted by dumbdumb!:it is a problem for the christians/catholics!
because you don't have all the facts to make the best decision!
oh please la. i've got friends from that psycho church i left, who did so well she's in nus now. she's a caregroup leader, she's in the worship team, she has meetings with her sheeps etc... and she's doing well in school.Originally posted by gigabyte14:the first post concerns schoolwork/academic purposes, and i'm trying to link it to the future of sg, read properly can you?
as i said, i'm looking from a citizen's perspective
it concerns the christians/catholics because its their gameplan.Originally posted by gigabyte14:read the whole thing in post number one.

the reasons these kids are doing badly in school is because they don't know how to manage their time. the problem don't lie with the church. the church don't go around telling them "don't bother studying for your exams, its more important to attend a church party"
its really up to them to mange their own time. if they choose to forsake their studies because its more fun to be in church, its their folly, their mistake. they are the ones to be blamed. not the church.
i just don't see the church being an academic problem.
and i say this because i was from a church like that, and that's what i see.
wah.. u really dumb sia... they all tok so much already u still so dumb.. wonder wad's inside ur skull.. haha.. jus joking.. aiya.. i am just curious why u r so sensitive towards what giga is saying.. it's like i don't see flaws in both of ur conversation.. but ur attitude is really bad.. so.... dumb? lol..Originally posted by dumbdumb!:it concerns the christians/catholics because its their gameplan.
its like.. you cannot ask a christian to solve a buddhist problem, because we don't know the spiritual aspect of it.
likewise, you don't know our issues, you don't know the complications we have. so don't make decisions for us.
