commerce, in itself is not wrong. neither is trying to grow the church's investment.Originally posted by daughterofsarah:Hi Dr Who.. i read a pastor's reply to your above verse in another thread here: http://www.blogpastor.net/2007/09/10/bold-move-by-new-creation-church/
Hope you'll find his explanation useful.
"Jesus was not angry with commerce or big business per se. He was furious for two reasons:
(1) The money changers and merchants were ripping off Jews who had come from other countries to worship during the Passover. They had to convert their money into temple currency to purchase sacrificial animals and to pay the temple tax. The inflated rates and exorbitant prices infuriated Jesus.
(2) The stalls were set up in the court of the Gentiles section of the temple, thus hindering its purpose as a space for the non-Jews to come to worship God. Thus Jesus cried out “My house shall be a house of prayer for ALL NATIONS, but you have made it into a den of ROBBERS.”"

that's a good excuse to increase tithe from 10% to 20%?
i think their money mostly tied up in real estate?
yes, u r rite, the money is tied up in the real estate of the kingdom of god!
frankly, if it had not utilised the auditorium space at times when worship is not in progress, would it be able to accomodate so many people and pay the lease for the various overflow rooms? and i dun think they will be that insensible to lease for purposes other than secular ones (i have seen in-house seminars for HDB Corp before), neither would it be sensible for other religions to host their events there.Originally posted by Chin Eng:commerce, in itself is not wrong. neither is trying to grow the church's investment.
the problem is that when such commercial ventures come into conflict with biblical teaching eg, renting of the church premises to activites such as seminars conducted by other religions.
the question of Rock Productions' (or whatever it is called) involvement with regards to the activity stated in this link
http://www.sgforums.com/?action=thread_display&thread_id=259564 was never really answered.

the problem is not whether a church can rent out their premise for other activities, but when such activities is in conflict of interest of the church's core belief.Originally posted by ^tamago^:frankly, if it had not utilised the auditorium space at times when worship is not in progress, would it be able to accomodate so many people and pay the lease for the various overflow rooms? and i dun think they will be that insensible to lease for purposes other than secular ones (i have seen in-house seminars for HDB Corp before), neither would it be sensible for other religions to host their events there.
at least they are in a proper business, probably even breaking down the layer of ice between the undecided non-believers who may have different impressions of Christians in general from hearsay.

Of course you cannot see something that is very subtle!Originally posted by davidche:Who is Prince?
I dont see how Kong's sermon manifest anti christ when their purpose is to spread the news about God by being expanding into a mega church.
No, as I said, no church would do that, neither would other religions do so.Originally posted by Chin Eng:the problem is not whether a church can rent out their premise for other activities, but when such activities is in conflict of interest of the church's core belief.
So, how do you expect churches to expand without a deserving place to accomodate all of them?Originally posted by TheGoodEarth:Of course you cannot see something that is very subtle!
On the surface, it looks very noble. But look deeper!
Religion and God have been used by all cloaks of people to serve their own ends. It is no different whether they wear ordinary clothe or religious gown! Heard of this story - the wolf in sheep's clothing?
I say: you are very naive and most of your postings show that!
Lets say this pastor, all he does are things that glorify God. Does his intentions matter? Even if the intentions were bad(which is most probly not) while his actions are good, these actions would only manifest a good effect.Originally posted by TheGoodEarth:Of course you cannot see something that is very subtle!

I am saying that you cant say a person is anti christ by looking at his intentions while what he does is opposite of that.Originally posted by laurence82:siao
only a superficial person would say such things
Its not looking things on the surface. It is looking at what he does and just simply that.Originally posted by laurence82:of course u can
