You don't trust my analysis of the Hebrew?
Let me show you guys how it is pronounced in Hebrew!
1. Go
http://www.mechon-mamre.org/p/pt/ptmp3prq.htm2. Download Amos chapter 1 on the website -
http://media.snunit.k12.il/kodeshm/mp3/t1501.mp33. No one is cheating here, so here is Amos 1:1 in your familiar NIV
1 The words of Amos, one of the shepherds of Tekoa—what he saw concerning Israel two years before the earthquake, when Uzziah was king of Judah and Jeroboam son of Jehoash [a] was king of Israel.
4. Here is the english translation from the website in step 1:
http://www.mechon-mamre.org/p/pt/pt15.htm
1 The words of Amos, who was among the herdmen of Tekoa, which he saw concerning Israel in the days of Uzziah king of Judah, and in the days of Jeroboam the son of Joash king of Israel, two years before the earthquake.
If you are garang enough, the Hebrew is provided in parallel on the same page.
5. Listen to the audio file in step 2! You will hear 'Ah-Moss' in the beginning, presumably the reader was enunciating the book and chapter. And then he will go into the chapter proper - "Divrei Ah-Moss .."Divrei means something like 'word'. You see it often in the Torah.
