Safehaven presents: “Christian perspectives on Homosexuality and pastoral care”
Safehaven is planning to engage the mainstream church in a ground-breaking dialogue session on the issue of homosexuality come 10 May 2007, 730pm at the Amara Hotel.
For the first time in history, theological heavy-weights and experts in counselling and psychology will come together to share their Christian perspectives on homosexuality and pastoral care. In the past, the mainstream churches would organise forums to debate the issue, but they usually turned out to be heavily one-sided affairs, ending up with homosexuality being cast as deviant, immoral, or worse. This time, Safehaven is pleased to put together a fairly moderated dialogue, with equal representation from both the “for” and “against” camps, and facilitated by a professional news caster.
The esteemed speakers are as follows:
Rev. Dr. Tan Kim Huat, Chen Su Lan Professor of New Testament and Dean of Studies at Trinity Theological College
Edmund Smith, founder of ex-gay movement Real Life Ministry
Anthony Yeo, Clinical Director of Counselling and Care Centre
Rev. Dr. Yap Kim Hao, PhD (Boston University, Mass, USA), First Asian Bishop of The Methodist Church in Malaysia and Singapore, Pastoral Advisor FREE Community Church
And moderated by, Augustine Anthuvan, Assistant Programme Manager, MediaCorp Radio
The objective of the dialogue would be to offer the larger Christian community, the opportunity to hear and be exposed to alternate views on homosexuality, to be informed and engaged, to overcome the fear of “the other”. Fundamentally, Safehaven wants to start the process of conversation, to encourage dialogue rather than division, to show that whatever differences of interpretation or opinion (where there is no simple “right or wrong” answer) we as Christians can honestly face differences while maintaining pastoral care and unity as Christians sharing a common tradition.
So whether you are straight or gay, or just curious, donÂ’t miss this opportunity to be a part of a ground-breaking event, and open your eyes and ears to what the whole hub-bub about homosexuality is all about. -

There are 3 groups of christians or at least they professed to be christians:
1) Those who absolutely detest homosexuals and look upon them as a lower being and reject them and look at them as if they themselves are so much better
2) Do not agree with their lifestyle but accept that that is a personal choice and they deserve every respect and every opportunity and every love in life just like every person in this world.
3) Says that God approves of the homosexual lifestyle.
The problem is that many people perceive christians belong to Type 1. I dun. I belong to type 2. And the problem with both type 1 and 3 is that they took different biblical principles and take it to the extreme. God doesnt desire that. -

4) Christians who admonish the sinner, yet does not condemn him. They do not agree with this form of lifestyle, neither do they accept that it is merely a personal choice. One's lifestyle does not merely affect one individual; it affects the people around him/her. Nevertheless respect for their dignity must be accorded. Giving respect and dignity cannot be equated to allowing our brothers and sisters to sin at will. -
