To say that monkeys banging on the typewriter will result in Julius Caeser is as good as saying a million dinosaurs giving birth will one day result in a human baby being born from a dinosaur. Which is what you think evolution is, isn't it?Originally posted by Chin Eng:In all seriousness I did not read the above. No point. Our past has crossed too many times to have another war, which we all know will never end. You believe what you believe, and I believe what I believe. I don't believe that any number of people with any number of shakes will create even a simple house with the lego breaks.... (oops, I read the last paragraph).
I also don't believe that given time infinite, monkeys banging on the typewriter will result in Julius Caeser.
The thread is about WHY DO YOU BELIEVE IN GOD. In itself, it is a personal question that demands a personal answer. Any answer given will bother on some level of supernatural or mysticism.
You don't need to be happy with the answer either because these answer will never satisfy your "scientific" thirst, so there is really no point in talking about it. When you enter a thread, it will inevitably become a session of flaming and counter flaming.... I don't think I have neither the time or interest for this. Therefore it will be locked.... If the TS wishes to have this thread reopened, please PM me.
To each his own SIS, to each his own.

If monkeys were to bang on the typewriter, I'm sure they will come up with words such as you, me, is, are and more. If you take these words and stick them on the typewriter such that when the monkeys bang on each button, each word comes out, they will be able to form sentences. Again, if you take each sentence and stick it in the keyboard, eventually, they will be able to form paragraphs. After paragraphs, you will be able to form chapters. I'm sure, millions and millions of years later, you might get an essay or book. Maybe not exactly Julio Caesar, but something nonetheless. Maybe you can look at each word as protozoas, each sentence as invertebrates, each paragraph as vertebrates and each chapter as mammals, if it helps you. This is the concept of evolution and roughly how it works. I'm just adapting it to your monkeys banging on typewriter analogy. Of course, there many more factors and complications at work.
You seem only to want to have a shallow concept of evolution. Why is that?

who's..... you?
funny thing is.... in your example above, there is still the YOU, that manipulated the typewriter... some monkeys banging on the keyboard will only come up with some form of words and no intelligent sentences. There was this need of a YOU to put the words onto the typewriter, thereby changing the environment and increasing the odds of a sentence being formed.....
so I ask again.... who's you? perhaps..... God?
but as I'd said, time eternal, people greater than you and I had debated on this, and there is no conclusion one way or another. We feel about this issue because of what we embrace as "truth" and "faith".
... but thanks for increasing the rating for this month.
